The Wierdest Parasite thread ever ! Fetus = Parasite !!!
A fetus is a parasite
(idea) by plebius (3.1 mon) (print) ? Sat Apr 27 2002 at 19:02:44

Recent research into the biology of miscarriages reveals that most miscarriages are the result of the host female´s (mother´s) immune system attacking the invading fetus cells. The immune system has even been employed as a sort of birth control device in animals using a technique called immunocontraception. Our immune system also attacks such things as the cold virus, bacteria, and the HIV virus. For these, we have developed antibiotic and anti-viral medications, with very little debate as to whether mounting such an attack against these microscopic invaders is ethically proper. Little attention is placed on the some 600,000 women that die each year as a result of the invading fetal cells (World Health Organization), yet diseases such as Huntington´s Disease which kills far fewer people per year, has scientists scrambling to come up with newer and better treatments and defenses against it.
Given that fetal cells are clearly an invader to be attacked by the immune system at every opportunity, and that fetal cells kill 600,000 people every single year, why is our government doing nothing to combat these deadly organisms? And why does the religious right use particularly manipulative tactics in their opposition to the development of antifetal drugs and other methods for removing this dangerous organism from the millions of women who are invaded by it every year? I´m not much of a conspiracy theorist, but this one really has me stumped.

Note:
I am not using the strict biological definition of parasite. Rather, I am using it in its more general sense as defined by dictionary.com

Yikes, I can't believe I am reviving this just found thread from ancient times, but, I do have something to add.

As bizarre as this may sound, this is a true problem, which has happened to me at least seven times.

In my family's genetic makeup, there is a blood disorder called antiphospholipid syndrome, which has a variety of different isotopal variants, yet, the bottom line is that the immune system tends to recognize innocuous things as foreign, thereby destroying it's own cells.

My own experience is what was called 'missed abortions.' I had at least five pregnancies go terribly wrong, and, two almost tragic births.

The worst was an ectopic pregnancy, missed by a doctor while I was on vacation in a foreign country. Considering that I had lost the pregnancy, he did a D&C. After two weeks of rest, when I returned home my gyn was consulted, he did an exam...since I was still bleeding a bit; he saw no cause for alarm, and, sent me home. Two days later I returned, seeing another doctor. I was is terrible pain. Her exam revealed rebound pain; I was sent straight to the hospital. My tube had burst.

My first pregnancy was a fluke. Found out when I was already four months, having had periods in between. Delivered as an emergency 6 weeks early.

My last was an emergency also. It was 2 weeks until delivery time. Portions of this pregnancy was confined to bed, due to bleeding. Saw the doctor at 4:00pm. Doc said I was experiencing Braxton-Hicks (false contractions.) As I was leaving, told her i'd see her 'tonight.' It was then, and only then, did she do my first internal during examination. She said there was no dialation. Within 5 hours I started bleeding. Called the doc, took off for the hospital, less than two miles away. On the way there I hemorrhaged. An emergency C-section saved our lives. The doctor was so distraught, she never cashed the $3200 check issued by the insurance company.

This was not her fault. My body perceived my pregnancies as foreign objects, and in different ways, tried to abort them. Some unfortunate pregnancies end badly at full term for both mother and child, during normal delivery, with no warning.

It was only after my first son was diagnosed with this disorder, did all of this history have an explanation. He had a different isotype, it attacks different parts of his body.

So, I can attest that this is a true phenomenon.

Fetus' can kill you.
