What sensations did your broken bone have as it healed?

Kinda like a sharp pain at times, other times none at all. I remember thinking some days "oh crap, I must have done something to it again". But it was just healing.

That is exactly what I'm feeling occasionally - the sharp pain. It is very minor pain, but concerns me about the healing. Good news then.

I'm lucky - I don't have pain in my break unless I move it wrong.

Fiberglass ?
Pffft

Back in my day when we broke a bone we got two bricks and duct taped em around the broken bone.

We also walked barefoot in the snow for 6 miles to get to school each day.
Then we put our shoes on.

You kids nowadays....

Re: IF you have every broken a bone, what did it feel like when it was healing?
I had a lateral fracture of my sternum (seat belt snapped it)

Hospital sent me home, said I had a deep bruise. Since when does a bruise make grinding, crunching sounds? But they ignored that.

Healing process, couldnt take a deep breath, cough or sneeze, couldn't lean forward, bend over, lie down or sit up without help. Five years before I could sleep on my side.

The pain was outrageous, but about 8 months later the pain was replaced by the most maddening itch I've ever felt.

No help from doctors, the bastards stuck by the 'bruise' diagnosis and labelled me a drug-seeking hypochondriac.

Bad days.

Re: IF you have every broken a bone, what did it feel like when it was healing?
I broke my 5th metatarsal (spiral fracture) in my left foot about 4 weeks ago. Healing time is 6-8 weeks. I was in a boot the first week and in a plaster cast after that for 5 additional weeks. I have 2 weeks to go till my 6 week appointment when I will hopefully have the cast removed. I am feeling some pain. I have the small sharp pains like have been mentioned which makes me think things are healing (which is good). I also have been gradually been putting weight on it as my foot allows (doctor said it was ok) and it feels like there is a knot in my foot. There is also a burning itching sensation that reminds me of when a cut is in its final stages of healing (but amplified). I am hoping this burning itching in my foot are also signs of healing and that the knot is where the calcium deposits are growing to heal the bone in my foot

I have broken both my right ankle and right wrist and at times get a burning and itching sensation which comes and goes but a i get a constant pain. i did this by falling a pothole 3 inches deep 4 -5 weeks ago and i am in a cast at this point in time. i hope yours has healed but you will be left with pain sensation when it is cold out.
peace

Re: IF you have every broken a bone, what did it feel like when it was healing?
I had a compound fracture of the wrist when I was 13. Damn bone was sticking out of my arm like a gnarly broken broom handle.

What I remember most was the itching.. The old man made me a scratcher from a wire clothes hanger that I could push into my full arm cast to get some relief.

Re: IF you have every broken a bone, what did it feel like when it was healing?
Spiral fracture of one lower leg, plated and screwed back together, but had some nerve damage.

Was lucky in that no pain with the break ... but as it healed it (the bone) itched and the skin itched really badly all the way down into my foot. I took the itching to be the skin trying to tell me to deep massage it regularly so as to help the blood vessels regrow to provide blood into the skin and the leg.

On a few rare occasions (about 3 times) I would have almost overwhelming pain in my leg, which would last for about 4 to 6 hours. My personal Doctor (not my surgeon) told me that was what happens when the nerves finally reconnect ... they initially go wild signaling back and forth until they finally get their new connection figured out. Sure enough a few hours of that ... and then voila, all the pain would disappear as suddenly as it appeared, but I would then have feeling again in another part of my leg.

The worst thing for me was the "in the bone" itchiness, which I learned to ignore, and the skin itchiness - which since I could scratch or massage, which was actually worse.

Nerves are still growing back 1 year later, and sometimes a little bit of deep itchiness reappears, but nothing that bothers me.

Good luck

When I was on my last legs I healed broken metatarsals by jumping up and down and walking everywhere.
