"Meet Apple. We charge way more for our computers than you'd pay for a PC that is way faster with more ram."
I at Apple and their idiotic computers.
As an example, for a core2duo, 3gbram, random integrated video card notebook, you will pay about 4-500 dollars more than if you bought a windows based pc with the same or even better specs.
You can get a Windows based quad core desktop comp with 4 gb ram and a pretty decent video card for nearly half what you pay for a dual core Apple desktop with 2-3gb ram.
Apple = rip off. |

What difference does it make what you pay if it takes half an hour of updates to the shitty OS everytime you open the computer up to actually do something?
Windows PC's are slower than shit.

specs are not everything you know...
my old mac hold better the internal dsp processing than my new pc...
well, the pc hold more, since I have it with more ram but at threshold, when all lights hit red, my mac goes on while the pc shutters all around. |

I can lift more weight than any Ant, but that doesn't make me stronger, since the Ant can lift much more than it's own weight than me. |

what half hour to update? I have vista, and, as an example, last weeks "biggest update ever" from Msoft took a whole 2 mins to install. Took another min-2min to reboot and finish the update.
My pc is very fast with vista. I have no problems running anything, from MAME to old ass win95 games like Ignition to programs like Convertxtodvd, etc...
And i'd say it makes a big difference what you pay. My pc is a 2.2ghz dual core, 3gb ram, 256mb integrated vid card, total cost? 450bux brand from HP. Compare that to what I would have paid for the equivalent from Apple when i bought this pc a year and a half ago, which was about 1200 bux.
Again, Apple = rip off. |

Yeah, I guess that would suck IF it were the case. However, I've never experienced your make believe situation. Update the OS every time you "open the computer"? ROFL, I guess "open the computer" means "turn it on"? My OS only updates when I tell it to, which is much more rare than every time.
Also, my PC is hardly slow. It's very fast.
As for windows, yes you may be right about the price and the bloat, however the guy you're responding to is talking about price of HARDWARE. Apple computers are WAY OVERPRICED when it comes to hardware.
Overcharging for the hardware is more expensive to the buyer than MS overcharging for their OS.
Also, you don't HAVE to get windows. I can buy the PC parts, put it together and throw a free Linux installation on it. Can you buy apple computer parts and build your own and then go choose what OS to put on there? No. |

I would love to use Ubuntu if game developers would start seriously making games for this OS. I know there are programs (e.g. Wine) to use Windows games on Linux, however only a small amount of games can run without problems with these programs. |

Yeah .. but will it run without an anual new and clean installation for 4 years ?
I buy a Mac, i use it for 4 years, i buy another Mac.
I don´t care what is inside (my time is much to precious to care about the inside of my computer or my coffee machine), i just buy the most expensive consumer machine that is priced lower as the MacPro series and i always had enough power for 3 years and in the 4 year i noticed the "i should buy a faster computer" syndrome.
Apple .. it works and i do not care anymore if XP Home can not handle domains or XP Pro does not allow more than 10 client connections or can not handle various networks without stupid rebooting .. or what version of all the Vista crap is the right one for me.. |

only reason you don't get viruses and shit on Apple's is because there aren't enough of them in use for the virus makers to bother coding viruses for them. Check out the hacker conferences, Mac's are not that secure, proven fact.
If you wanna pay 40-50% more for a comp than you should because you think you're safer using it, go right ahead. I've never had an infection on my Vista pc, but then again i'm not a fucking moron who clicks on banner ads and opens emails from unknown senders. |

So basically you're paying extra money to keep you from having to NOT BE A DUMBASS. I've never had a virus on my own PC. Never. Family members? Sure, because they're idiots and click on email links because they think Bill Gates is testing a new email tracking software and will send them $100 if they click the link and forward on to at least 20 other people. Either that or they can't stay away from pr0n and warez sites.
Apple owners act as if it's the superiority of the OS that keeps them virus free. No, it's the popularity of Windows and the HUGE number of people that use it that contribute to viruses. All the script kiddies and 1337 h4x0rz have windows boxes and do their trouble-making on that OS. |

sure thing. with ignition, as an example, i install it in compatibility mode for win95 (find the setup/installer file, right click it, set the compatibility mode) then, after it's installed, do the same to sets the compatibility mode for the game's executable.
You will find some older games that don't wanna work, like EA's "Nuclear Strike" won't work for me. But I have successfully played through Grim Fandango on Vista, and that's a win98 game, using the compatibility mode.
Sometimes, even if a game is, say, for win98, you may have to set it to win95 compatibility to get it to work. I've even found that some XP games work better running in win98 compatibility mode rather than XP mode, such as Simpsons Hit and Run, which suffers terrible load times if I run it in XP compatibility mode.
If you wanna get down with your old dos games, I recommend using D-Fend, which is an easy to use frontend for DosBox (comes with latest DosBox as well). I recently played through the first three Leisure Suit Larry games on my Vista pc with D-Fend, and started the original Police Quest. |

Listen, to each their own. PC works for one guy, Mac for the next. I guess my point is: who really cares?
Are you Apple folks so obsessed you can't see the flaws in your OS of choice?
Are you PC folks totally blind to the problems created by the uneducated who use it?
Seriously, this is the dumbest friggin' ongoing argument ever. Windows is wacky and prone to problems, Apple is massively over-priced and prone to more serious problems that usually mean buying a new computer. When you boil it down to actual, serious users (of which very few of you are), both platforms offer plenty of reasonable options suited to the taste of the end user. Arguing over which is better just makes you look like retards fighting a battle which will never be won.
So far the score is 1-1 fail for both parties.
And no, I don't like Linux that much either :) |
|
Anonymous Coward User ID: 151657 10/23/2009 3:32 PM | | Re: New ad from Apple: Windows' Broken Promises | Quote | This argument has been void since apple started using intel processors.
Apple used to use a motorolla based processor, but they now all used x86 architecture cpu's.
a mac is now just the same as a pc running linux.
granted the macs os is more polished than more linux distrubutions, but it has to be, becuase you are paying a premium for it.
If you want a sleek fashionalbe piece of functional furniture, buy a mac.
Mac's are more geared towards the artistic, graphic design and architecture crowd.
If you are a gamer, then there is not really any option but to buy a windows based os computer.
If you just want to surf the net I would not invest in a mac.
If mac's were more popular than windows based os, the virus argument would be reversed.
A pc does not get a virus because it is a pc.
It will more likley get a virus because it is using the most popular operating system
There are as much virus reports on macs as there are for linux pc's, vurtualy zero.
You are no longer arguing about a processor architecture, because the PC market won that round, you are arguing about the software that you put on the hardware. |

You seem to have a lot of time at hands.
I don´t but therefore i really give a crap about some hundred bucks,
I am building chemical plants, you do not use something because it is "cheap", you use it because you know it works, price is not that important in an environment where every error of a part could cause a disaster.
I live my life that way and altough i have not collected that big pile of china crap my neighbours have, my pile is the finest, maybe the most expensive and all my tools (i like DIY) are reliable and working altough some of them are older than 30 years. |
