Mom thought I was doing the binaries too much LOL. Using ACDsee and some other program to sort and view pics LOL. Setting the computer date back so I could keep using the pic viewer LOL.
Newsgroups are still around... some people even use those over torrents to get software but you need a server with high retention.

Wouldn't all the "old" laptops have dial-up capability? Mine is an IBM 2004 (manufactured in 2003). CONDEMNATION without INVESTIGATION is the HIGHEST form of IGNORANCE

Now THAT's what I'm talkin' about.
THANKS. I had started a list like that already.
Remember the old Internet Yellow Pages book thst had lots of listings? Back in the day.
I had a composition notebook half filled with hastily scribbled addresses.

EPIC.
Yes yes. You were on the bleeding edge of electronic pr0n. Remember how cool it was to be one of the first to upgrade to 9600 baud? You'd hear the modem relay click and race over to see what they were doing on the BBS.
Yes, chat mode was also cool. ALL HAIL THE SYSOP!!
this might be the main driver for people to keep the older os like windows xp as we could source modems with xp drivers but vista and win7 might run in to trouble The retired thread killer

I am using the relic Win/Me, way back to 2001! Dial-up has been my only access to the web, although it surely does have its shortcomings...no youtube, no other videos either. 32bit OS doesn't get you far nowdays with Win/Me.
As for setting the computer date back, I'd be afraid that it would bring back some kinks that I'd rather not see again. :) Spare me the hassle!
Looks like there is close to an even number of us folks still on dial-up...almost a 50/50 split.

it should, just look for a phone jack on the side.
Thanx!

If it does have the jack, you just need another phone line cord with a duplex jack to hook up your phone as well. If you are running XP then there is a Wizard for helping you setup for dialup. I mentioned NETZERO before, they offer free dialup, you just have to put up with all the extra ad's and slowness, but this is an easy way to try dialup for free and as has been suggest a good backup if you loose your other internet service. Just search for NETZERO on the web and you will get all the info you need.

Well, whatever you guys decide to do, please have the closest glper to central OK come by and show me how to use it. So now I know what I have to do. I have to keep breathing. And tomorrow the sun will rise, and who knows what the tide will bring in.
A lot of mobile phones have modem capability. Mine does and it's quite a few years old (Motorola).
If you have a cable to interface between the computer and cell phone, you could probably find the software to use it as a modem. The greatest gift you can give anyone is the example of your own life working. -Orin
