You hate Hollywood?

I don't care for a lot of their people, either.

Yea, in a "way" they are suffering.

I wish that I could say that they are suffering terribly, but unfortunately movies tend to do okay during economic downturns because people are looking for a form of escape. They boomed during the Great Depression, if I am not mistaken. People have kids that want to go to the movies and they will take them because kids are the last thing that most parents want to deny in tough times.

I was laid off form a TV station out of Santa Monica CA and they are cutting back. They lay off non essential people then hire a lot of them back as contractors. A lot of the TV stations in Los Angeles area were going through some form of restructuring.

A lot of "little" people are being laid off.

In fact, there was a (brief) discussion months ago about a Hollywood bailout, but luckily that never materialized past the planning stages.

One thing I do have to say in favor of the actors (the ONLY good thing) is that right when the serious economic problems struck, they were about to go on strike for higher wages. They immediately dropped that idea. Sure, they make way too much as it is, but I guess it's the thought that sort of counts.

It's the phenomenon again of the little indy movie with a new pix called "Paranormal Activity" - made for an unheard of $15,000 and is on track to take in $100,000,000.
Studios are still concentrating on dazzling computer effects to attract their target demographics ("tweens" to 34 approx.), but it's a fickle crowd. This little indy outsold "Saw VI".
