Torchwood: Children of Earth
It was shown from 20 July 2009 on BBC America in the US and Space in Canada.
Children of Earth begins with children coming to a complete stop at exactly the same time across the world. Torchwood investigates as the children begin to chant a message "we are coming".
The 456 are an unnamed aliens with whom the government of the United Kingdom made a deal in 1965; the 456 extorted twelve children in return for a cure to an Earth-bound virus which was about to mutate. They are only known by the frequency they are using, 456 (Pronounced "four five six" not "four hundred and fifty six").
The 456 demand a gift: 10% of Earth's children. One of the Torchwood team, in 1965, gave twelve children to the 456. It is revealed that he gave away the children in exchange for a cure for a new strain of Indonesian flu, which the 456 claimed would kill 25 million people. Meanwhile, the government tries to bargain with the aliens, but the 456 threaten the human race with annihilation if their demand is not met in full. The Prime Minister and his cabinet then decide that the government will offer the 456 those 10% of children whose schools have been placed in the bottom of the British league of school achievement.
To gather the children, the Prime Minister informs the country that some children will receive an inoculation against the effects of the 456, when in actuality these selected children will be given to the aliens. Despite official agreement that children of the political elite will be spared, the Prime Minister tells a senior Home Office civil servant that his daughters will be taken, to convince the public that the government were victims also. This civil servant then kills his family and himself. The army is dispatched to collect the selected children, but the public start to fight back in defence of their children.

New York Ends Flu Shot Mandate for Health Care Workers
New York state made waves earlier this year when the health commissioner said all health-care workers had to get vaccinated for both seasonal and H1N1 flu. Yesterday, the state suspended that rule — but not because of the court challenges and opposition it generated from the state nurses union.
Instead, the governor said in a statement, there isn’t enough H1N1 vaccine to go around, so not all workers would be able to get vaccinated by the Nov. 30 deadline. Pregnant women and others who are at high risk should have priority for vaccine that is available, officials said.
The statement did not mention that the rule had been put on hold anyway — a judge last week issued a temporary restraining order in response to multiple lawsuits that argued the state had overstepped its legal bounds in issuing the rule.
It’ll be interesting to see whether this debate returns in the coming months, as public health officials argue that vaccination lowers the risk that health care workers will infect their patients, and some health care workers counter that they should decide for themselves whether to get vaccinated. In a typical year, only about half of health care workers get a flu shot.

The City is monitoring both seasonal and novel H1N1 influenza activity during the 2009-2010 influenza season. Daily and weekly updates (posted every Friday) will track trends in influenza-like illness (ILI) and show which influenza viruses are currently circulating in the city.
Current findings include:
Overall influenza activity remains at a low level in NYC.
Sporadic hospitalizations and deaths due to H1N1 or influenza A are occurring in NYC.
Laboratory surveillance data indicates that although influenza A circulation is not widespread, novel H1N1 remains the predominant influenza subtype currently present in NYC. There is laboratory evidence that respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and rhinovirus are also circulating in NYC.
