I am trying to figure out if the messed up my mother's drv license. Her first name is Anne Marie but on the license it's spelled Anne,Marie. I am not sure if the ",Marie" is a middle name (which would be a mistake). Whats throwing me off is the comma.

Re: On your Driver's License is your middle name initialized or written out?
Say her last name is Smith, Perhaps she needs to hyphenate her first name like: Anne-Marie Smith

I have no middle initial, so will write (none) just like that. If she just wrote "none", some dummy might think that's her middle name. Where there's space for just one letter, put a slash through it. So she would put "Anne-Marie (none) Smith"

Both my grandfathers had no middle names so when they were in the military, the military assigned them each a middle initial, forever altering their true names.

The-powers-that-be try to fit everything into their generic system. My Dad has always abbreviated his first name like this: W. John Smith. He goes by "John" but has always run into the problem that you have to spell out first name, initialize middle name followed by last name. So to his annoyance, he has to fill forms out as "William J. Smith"

good advice but is the comma suggesting the "Marie" is her middle name? It's important i figure this out.

Can you type out exactly how they show her name including her last name? (Don't use her real last name.)

Probably a typo. If you fat finger the keyboard, you can accidentally type the comma when hitting the M.

My NYS driver's license is the same!!

My name on my birth certificate is J Mel, but the driver's license says Mel, J. I am now having a hard time convincing the equivalent of the NYS DMV in the country I just moved to, that the comma means the J comes first. And I can't find anything about it on the DMV website. I don't think it's a typo, but I don't know what it means.

J. should mean first name first initial.
So if it says Mel, J. that means J Mel
