Keep what you got by giving it all away. Have a good, long, hard think about it.

Good question.

I don't own any guns, so I always figured if the shit ever hits the fan like this, I'd be shot and killed.

That is, unless I joined in with that mob.

I live in a one story ranch, and while I can cheaply add locks to the two door entrances, I have eleven ground-floor windows, including one large picture window, that are vulnerable to forced entry. I can't think of any way to secure these windows other than adding security grates over them, which I fear would be prohibitively expensive, and not an option anyway for the large window.

Reinforced doors and jambs, random code garage opener-lockable, shatter alarms, and this stuff on all the windows...

Goes on like any window tint, washable when dry, tried it on an old pane of gass, works great. Won't keep them out forever, but will make it very difficult to get in. Most petty thieves will give up.

Cheap? No, but I have bars on all the windows and security doors all around;Even on the top floor. It's going to make a lot of noise and take some time to get through, so by then they will meet their doom. More realistically they will take one look and choose an easier target. Sorry neighbors.
You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

Very thorny rose bushes in front of ground floor windows, and a large dog.

At least in my neighborhood... - I think extra fencing / bars on windows etc would make me stand out from the crowd and be more of a target.

had a neigbor that screwed the window frames on lower widows seldom used where other excape window was easily avaiable he keep flash light and screw driver handy .at each window. .. each room had one window for rapid exit rest were screwed to lower windos sill . all windows had refective covering for energy conservation. . .............................some folks had alarm companies rigged up series of silent alarm transmitters in thier house to a hidden cell phone . The family only had to stike certain spots around the home for a emergency signals to the alarm company of a violent attack or robbery attack in progress in thier home. .. cost extra though for hidden cell phone and extra transmitting signals.
