So, I'm sitting at my desk on my computer. All of a sudden I here the sound of water splashing behind me. I turn around and my cat is on the shelf behind me taking a huge piss all over my guitar and my jacket and his food dish. I can't believe it. I've never seen anything like it.

Are you sure the cat is peeing and not spraying if its a female no prob if its a male good luck with the smell then have him cut.

What brand are you feeding him. It might be toxic. He's trying to get your attention and tell you. Don't be mad at him, instead figure out the message and help fix the issue. |

cats are usually pretty private about their toilet. he could be telling you that there is something wrong. vet check for sure.

ok, how old is kitty cause of the kidney thing? tom cat? fixed? ok, worse case: tom cat, not fixed, pees on your stuff. your coat is second hand and kitty just got a wiff of another male cat? you spent the night out and kitty got a wiff of another guy? female cat? definately kidneys.

Spraying is to mark something as his and to STAY THE FUCK AWAY. This is what males do [not females]. Is he longhair? Longhair cats are more likely to do this even if fixed.
Has your jacket been near any cats or dogs or anything that could set him off?
Maybe spraying the food bowl also marks it as his. |

That's true. Yelling, rubbing their noses in their pee or feces will only motivate them toward more revenge against you. Do you have company? A new member of the family including another dog or cat? Does his box smell to high heaven? Did you rearrange you furniture? Did he meow a lot but you were so preoccupied that he finally pissed all over your stuff? Did you change his food? Run out of his favorite food? Did he spot intruding felines in his yard?
Catnip helps a lot and there are products you can buy that will put out "calm, happy kitty pheromones" in the air.
We adapt to our cats, cats never adapt to us.
