No draft necessary, no true enemies out there.
Bring the soldiers home and arrest all politicians and start from scratch.

The military is doing a "ghost" draft. All the young men and women who cannot find a "starter" job in this economy will (and are) jumping towards the military for training, pay, and a chance at riding out the economic "storm".

We wouldn't need a draft if all the gungho couch commandos who are always rooting for war would just go join up, instead of expecting some other poor schmuck to do their dying for them.

But that's not the way they operate, of course.

And if there was a draft, they'd do everything they could to get out of it.

Like Tricky Dick Cheney and his five draft deferments.

My thoughts are if military service was compulsory...without exemption...the dialog would change radically.

I'm really hoping you have a Constitutional military coup.

It's about the only thing that can save the USA from the inexorable slide into Fascist-Commie tyranny.

As it stands now the military proper is nothing more than the farm league for the hired mercenary.

You just don't understand how many people actually love war and the military, and they love to see others drafted into it who don't want to. It's all based on controlling others and forcing them to do evil against their will.

Why not compulsory service for all...this would put real skin in the game....radically change the national conversation.

It would be the last thing DC did.

OH I understand all to well...if you were to make service compulsory the war mongers would be held in check my friend.

I don't think you realize how much money would be wasted on people who didn't want to be there.
It cost a lot to bring someone in just to drum them out.
Even in the all volunteer force we spend a ton of money on people who TRY to kicked out because they had buyer's remorse for enlisting.

And I'll let the old combat veterans tell you how they felt about draftees in combat.

I'm afraid the ones who love war and would love to be drafted still far outnumber the pacifists in this country. It would just be a big downer like during the Vietnam era.

The one thing that I am and will always be opposed to very strongly is a military draft. The concept of being "forced" to fight for a reason that you might not agree with, or fight for somebody else is ridiculous. I'm not sure what i would do physically (moving and such) if there was a draft but i know i would tell obama and the other fucks that if they want to fight a war so badly, then put on a military outfit yourself and go fight

Actually, due to unemployment, I think that recruiters are being overwhelmed!

Best thing is to start teaching anti-war in the schools and Sunday Schools, and in the church pulpits, That's not done, war is encouraged.
Next, the fallen dead and wounded should no longer be treated like heroes. They should be viewed as psychopaths who went off and did something dispicble and suffered the consequences.
That's just the beginning of the only way we'll stop wars. And if people don't want to do that, then they won't see all that much wrong with forcing people into war either.
