Onion, keep flu away!
Forwarded from a friend in GA ----

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that
visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu.
Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and many died.

The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone
was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing
that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion
in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then).
T he doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the
onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and
when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously
absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in AZ. She said that several
years ago many of her employees were coming down with the flu and so
were many of her customers. T he next year she placed several bowls
with onions around in her shop. T o her surprise, none of her staff got
sick. It must work.. (And no, she is not in the onion business.)

The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them in bowls
around your home. If you work at a desk, place one or two in your
office or under your desk or even on top somewhere. T ry it and
see what happens. We did it last year and we never got the flu.

If this helps you and your loved ones from getting sick, all the better.
If you do get the flu, it just might be a mild case..

Whatever, what have you to lose? Just a few bucks on onions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who regularly
contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this most
interesting experience about onions:

Weldon, thanks for the reminder. I don't know about the farmers story...
but, I do know that I contacted pneumonia and needless to say I was very
ill...I came across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion put one
end on a fork and then place the forked end into an empty jar...placing the
jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the
morning from the germs...sure enough it happened just like that...
the onion was a mess and I began to feel better.

Another thing I read in the article was that onions and garlic placed
around the room saved many from the black plague years ago.
They have powerful antibacterial, antiseptic properties.

Re: Onion, keep flu away!
Onion needs a lot of available sulfur in the soil to grow properly and with no surprise is loaded with sulfur compounds. It's a dry climate plant that does well with applications of Gypsum (Calcium Suphate) and with no surprise gypsum deposits are usually found in deserts. The sulfur compounds are important for human health because they are part of the amino acids cysteine and methionine.

Onion is more associated with longevity than any other common food in the western diet.

Onion is a very common ingredient in fast foods because people like the taste.

My wife has a friend here in town where we now live that does the same thing and swears by it.

It was weird reading about it here because the story my wife's friend told my wife about the onion was the exact same.

I think we'll give it a try!

Shouldn't the onions be peeled? Can an onion help with this even when it's unpeeled!?!? I have trouble believing this, even though I know onions have highly alkaline anti-bacterial properties.

PIN THIS POST!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL, I posted on 10/19.
Thread: Onions may help prevent/cure flu

This actually does work.
My mom, who is elderly, and I, got a virus at the same time. It wasn't swine flu, but a cold.
Started with a sore throat, developed into head cold/sinus headache, and the fatigue was really bad.

I started us both on Osha root. After one dose, my mom was back to normal, thank God. Mine lasted for days even though we were both taking it.
I gave the onions a try. I ate some chopped up raw for lunch. That night I felt really good, but got strange body aches, more like bone aches in my extremeties. I think the onion killed off everything and I got a reaction from that. Next morning, all my symptoms were gone.

The recipe for cream of red onion soup is on the site below

[link to swineflubusters.blogspot.com]
Recipes for combating swine flu and seasonal flu

The recipe serves four people and it equates to eating a whole red onion.

This recipe is to help build some immunity. If a person has flu then I would leave out the milk and increase the stock.
Best to avoid dairy products if you have the flu.

Red onions contain quercetin which is has anti-inflammatory properties.

Not too sure about a cut onion in a room however cutting up the onions for this soup will certainly clear your head and it does taste good if you like onions. If you like a slightly milder taste replace one of the onions for pumpkin or butternut squash.

This story is BOGUS.

Here is why:

"The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the

when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion."

In 1918 no microscope existed that couls see a virus.

" ... he did find the flu virus in the onion."

In addition to other properties, onion has been used to help relieve chest congestion. It's been used for centuries at least as a poultice for chest congestion. It also has expectorant properties when eaten.

I've not been sick in five years. Used to get chronic colds, flu's and bronchitus. I'll also add, I haven't had a flu shot in about six years. Who knows?

Good post OP. Er, re-post.
