THE DELUSIONAL DEPRESSION! There, I have a name for it.

The recession is officially over according to the artificial GDP numbers, but the Depression remains.

We are still in a horrific Depression and things are rapidly getting worse. Yet, those who want to believe the government lies and distortions know that the Recession is over. Yippie!

Hence, I have named this Depression "The Delusional Depression."

For those who think that is impossible, we will let the psychiatrists worry about their problem.

Illogical Federal support for spending on Korean and Japanese cars and any kind of home drove the economy up 3.5 percent from July through September. But the government aid -- from tax credits for home buyers to rebates for auto purchases -- is only temporary. Can you say "fleeting" and mean it?

Consumer spending, which normally drives recoveries, is obviously likely to collapse without it.

If shoppers retrench in the face of rising joblessness and tight credit, the fragile recovery could tip back into recession.

For the Obama administration, the mythical positive report on economic growth is a delicate one.

The Obama administration wants to take credit for ending the recession. On the other hand, it needs to acknowledge that rampant rising joblessness continues to cause Tremendous Pain all across the country because of pretend positive GDP. The loss of real jobs will result in an economic collapse never seen before because we were never before in a service sector economy like we are now............. These are not factory jobs that we are losing. The service sector is delicate and will be net additive to the fall of the economy.

I for one agree with your basic take YES!! the depression is still on and getting much worse government figures are purposely manipulated and distorted to create the illusion of a gradual recovery when none exist. How long they can succeed in doing this is severely limited , and will only make the crash more pandemic or global.

Totally agree. Anybody who says we are not in a Depression is delusional.

Stimulus money can only last so long and then you need more stimulus money. Can we really afford to keep propping up the economy when we are not dealing with the real problems????

Great name - so appropriate and true. The utter disconnect between Wall St/Wash D.C. and American citizens is unlike anything I've ever seen before. The cozy relationship between Wall St/Wash D.C. spells the end of America as we have known it. Mussolini called it "Corporatism" or "Fascism" and combined with Communist dictates, the future looks very bleak for America.
The Recession IS now over and now the long lasting delusional depression can truly begin.
