Re: Why NOT to Put a Leash on a Cat.Quote

There are TWO things I learned as a child (I tried both):

NEVER try to put a leash on a cat and walk it like a dog.

NEVER try to ride a goat.
 Quoting: Winningjob

I got my cat when he was three weeks old. He was feral and raised with dogs. He not only thinks that he is the alpha dog but he walks on a leash just like the dogs, in fact he will go and get his leash if you put the dogs out and and don't put him out too.

Why NOT to Put a Leash on a Cat...

Great topic and good video.

My reason is because the second I try to hook my cat up to a leash, he falls over and doesn't believe it's possible to walk anymore.

Seriously, he just tips over and lays there looking at me like WTF are you thinking!

A feral cat will fuck you up. They are like porcupines on crack.

Yeah...Ruth Buzzy I think did that laugh in bit on the trike. Charlie, my cat totally reminds me of that when I try and hook him up to a leash. Tip-Over Kitty.

Years ago, I watched a litter of kittens playing by my gate. They were adorable..like 10 weeks old. Here kitty I called to the closest kitten. The others kinda backed off...I picked the closest guy. How cute right? NOT!! He turned into a fucking maniac cactus chia pet...I was swinging my arm trying to get this little fucker off me. Biting and scratching...it was like some weird B movie!

I've never underestimated cats since.

I'd rather fight a dog.

According to the vet you have to get a feral kitten before it is 6 weeks old or it will always be feral and impossible to domesticate. Well I found my little fellow 15 years ago. The vet said that he was about 3 weeks old; and he still has a large wild streak in him. Though he imprinted on the dogs he is indeed one hellion and I have seen him send more than one dog yelping and running from out property. He is extremely territorial.

Re: Why NOT to Put a Leash on a Cat.Quote

Naaaa. Cats reign supreme, and I'm a dog person. That cat was amazing. Gave the guy what was coming to him.

Didn't that guy have some kind of police/military badge on him? Isn't this a sort of message of some kind -- what will happen to all us useless eaters -- I love it.

God praise that cat. Go for the balls, man. Go for the balls and don't let go.

Let this be a lesson to all of humanity.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 512611

The badge was Animal Control Officer. The lady was probably a volunteer from one of the save-a-pet organizations. She probably put him up to making the video for the local t.v. to get the cat adopted out.

I used to be an ACO. Although the volunteer was trying to do good they can make an ACO's life miserable sometimes. I tried my hardest to get animals adopted but it can be a loosing battle. The voluteers were always pouring on the guilt trip.

We used to have to put feral cats down because they were not adoptable. Well, until I found a cat whisperer. He had a wolf rescue and would come into shelter now and then to see if we had any wolf crosses.

He asked me about a really fine looking cat in one of the cages and I told him that it was wild and would be put down. He walked over to cage and stuck his hand in much to my horror. He talked to it and petted it. He did this for about 15 minutes and then lifted the cat out of the cage.

He came back every day for about a week until cat was completely tamed. Damn, I was shocked. A feral cat will go for your face and throat - vicious as hell.

So after that I would call him when we got one in and he would "tame" it. Sometimes he'd just take them home with him.

Fucking amazing! The man had a way about him.

Re: Why NOT to Put a Leash on a Cat.Quote

The guy had plenty of time to grab it by the scruff of the neck the way a mother cat carries her young.
It is rare that a cat doesn't curl up and settle down when picked up like that.
