I have downloaded this bill and am trying to compare some of it to the statements being made by other commenters, and I'll just say this: I think you should all "read it yourself" and learn to understand it. It's not that hard. I find most of the statements regarding this bill to be a real stretch of the imagination and more fear mongering attempts to turn people off to it.

• Page 16: States that if you have insurance at the time of the bill becoming law and change, you will be required to take a similar plan. If that is not available, you will be required to take the gov option!

So what's on Page 16 that states you have to take the gov. option? Well, page 16 is mostly "definitions" of terms used throughout the bill, but at the bottom, it starts the main "Title 1, Immediate Reforms", which states

TITLE I—IMMEDIATE REFORMS
SEC. 101. NATIONAL HIGH-RISK POOL PROGRAM.
(a) IN GENERAL.—The Secretary of Health and
Human Services (in this section referred to as the ‘‘Secretary’’) shall establish a temporary national high-risk pool program (in this section referred to as the ‘‘program’’) to provide health benefits to eligible individuals during the period beginning on January 1, 2010, and, subject to subsection (h)(3)(B), ending on the date on which the Health Insurance Exchange is established.
(b) ADMINISTRATION.—The Secretary may carry out

I stopped because I'm pretty well into page 17 by now, and saw nothing that states I have to take the government plan! And I also see that the title of this section is merely about establishing a "National High Risk Pool Program".
This leads me strongly to believe that the original commenter's have no idea how to read and interpret a legal document of this type, but I will examine a couple more:

Page 22: Mandates audits of all employers that self-insure!

Well, lets see about that then, even though I don't see "audits" as a big deal. Remember, on page 22, we are still in the title 1 section on establishing a national high risk pool. The ONLY thing I see on page 22 that even remotely resembles "mandating" an audit says this:

"Health insurance issuers shall provide such information as the Secretary may require to determine prevailing standard rates under this paragraph. The Secretary shall establish standard rates in consultation with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners."

And to me, that's a big stretch to even say that this requested info amounts to an "audit"! Give me a break! Again, if you don't want to listen to me, do it yourself (read the bill) and compare it to what these talking heads are spouting.

What about:
Page 50: All non-US citizens, illegal or not, will be provided with free health-care services.

Here's an assignment for you all. Go read the bill and please tell me specifically what language on page 50 (or anywhere in the general vicinity, a couple pages) says anything about free health care for non US citizens! Because I just don't see anything there! This whole area is about elimination of lifetime "limits" on coverage!

Page 58: Every person will be issued a National ID Healthcard.

I started looking for proof of this gem on page 56, which starts a section about "Reinsurance Program for Retirees". It starts mainly with term definitions until page 58, then carefully reading up until page 61, I found nothing even remotely indicating anything about a "National ID card"! Oh, but I did stop at something about "Audits":

(5) AUDITS.—The Secretary shall conduct annual audits of claims data submitted by participating employment-based plans under this section to ensure that they are in compliance with the requirements of this section.

Oh no, it's an audit! Arrrrrggggg!

I have tried to find a few more of these choice tidbits the fear mongers are throwing out there, but I have not found anything! So I am not going to go on and do anymore needless comparisons of this bill. But if you people really
believe these items are in there, I am going to have to see actual analysis of the text along with the statements being made! And if you think 1900 page is too much to read, I'll let you in on a secret: This thing is typed out at 25 lines per page, with at least 1.5" margins on each side of the page. I'd say if you reformatted this to textbook or novel style typesetting, it's more like 500 pages at the most. Take out the "definitions" text for references, and it probably drops down to half that!

As I state with any type of news media source in this day and age: Do not believe what you hear and see unless you verify it yourself. Otherwise you ARE just a sheeple, regardless of who is your shepherd!

If the health care plan was good for uninsured people, it would be available as an OPTION. Why force people to buy coverage they can not afford? or fine them for not being able to afford it? The fact that it is mandatory means that the authors of this bill believe that if the uninsured had a choice, most of them would not want it.

What you said in the first two sentences.
Washington needs to be sanitized and the only way to do that is to evict ALL of them to make sure no germs are left over. Besides, everyone has a differing opinion of who should stay. They have merely taken the most extreme and Draconian of all the other bills and incorporated it into this one at the last possible minute. This was their intent all along and they have just been toying with it pretending to consider other options.
