And every pound of fuel burnt produces about 1.2 pounds of water vapor. That's a lot of contrail!
However, most of the ice in a persistent contrail actually comes from the environment as the contrail grows and spreads out.
Search for "ice-supersaturation".
Learn something about contrails.

It always intrigued me that we didn't see them until we did. Now we hear they go back at least a decade or more, but why didn't we notice? It's like being called - hey, look up, but internally - perhaps that quiet voice.

Yeah, it's weird - I remember back in the day responding to a couple Meteorologist ( or as hubby says - Meaty Urologist, lol) websites and watching the trolls come out - I was a newbie and quite confused! I was being attacked for asking a simple question.
I also was watching a movie from 1988 on Hulu recently and noticing the lines in the sky and thought - They added that shit! Normalizing for the kiddies. Hell, they're teaching it in class now, pick up a science text book from a forth grader - damn ** shakes head**
