I did my laundry in the bath tub with natural soap - ask me a question.
The very few clothes/garments I have are now much cleaner than they would be in my Apartment complexes washing machines.

Only one lingering side effect remains - slightly bruised palms from squeezing out the water from all my clothes/garments.

As we near the end of contemporary, bastardized living, I will continue to revert to the ancient methods of living out what remains of my life here on Earth.

Of course water was used. A large volume of liquid is needed as the catalyst.

place grab bars around the tub walls to drain water from your cloths.. a extra shower curtain rods placed long ways over the legnth of your tub will drip the water into the tub .. a 5 gallon bucket from home depot works wel to soak clothing ..use two at a time ..each day . 20 mule team borax used in lundry will disinfect laundry use according to box instructions ..but MIX IT UP IN A 1 QUART SAUCE POT OF HOT WATER TIL ALL OF THE PRODUCT IS DESEOLVED FIRST, stir it a little .. BEFORE POURING IT INTO THE FIVE GALLON BUCKET OF WATER . 20 mule team borax is a totlly natural additive to clean and seriously disinfect clothing with your soaps. mix it up in hot water first then desolve the product well then let it cool down the use it on all delicate cloths too evendark clothing to be germ free .with your usual soap..

An alternative:

5 gallon plastic bucket with lid (such as a cleaned pickle bucket)

Cut a hole in the middle of the lid just large enough for a plunger handle

Purchase a clean toilet plunger

Add water and detergent to bucket, mix

Place appropriate number of clothes to fit in bucket.

Hold plunger in bucket and place lid over the plunger handle

Secure lid.

Agitate clothes with the plunger.

Take clothes down to the creek, to a water hose, or transfer to a large tub of water for rinsing

Wring and hang dry in the sun.

Old camping process. I suppose you could use the plunger in the bathtub as well to save a little washing elbow grease.

Regardless of process, wringing jeans are the worst! lol

place a fan on low speed on your bathroom counter top directed at the hanging laundry, to dry the cloths that have dripped dried into the tub while hanging on the shower curtain rods long ways over the inside of your tub .. do not over load the rods.. they might cave in. use hangers to hang the clothing on the rods ..a 1 inch water pipe long enought to fit over the tub yp igh like your shower curtian hight would work well for heavy cloths if you have a ceramic tile to lay it on secure it well ..ask hard ware store..

Good for you. It'll get easier when you get your toilet plunger, and one of those mop buckets with a wringer to wring them out, and one of the folding wooden clothes racks from Lehmans, and a wood stove. Matter of minutes and your clothes will be drying in front of the wood stove, and humidifying the air. Way to go! hf

Re: I did my laundry in the bath tub with natural soap - ask me a question.
We did a method similar to a posters above, however we used a 10 gallon barrel and a home made 'agitator' Basically a plunger, but the stick was 5 feet long with both a board running side to side and one up and down - forming a 't' at the end of the rod.

We would move it up and down and turn it back and forth.

For tough dirt we used a washing board.

20 Mule Team Borax, Baking Soda and soap flakes (homemade lye soap, grated with a 'cheese grater') 1/2 cup of Borax, 1/2 cup of Baking Soda and about a tablespoon of soap.

For whites we added a few drops of Mrs. Stewart's Bluing. Which they still make BTW: [link to www.mrsstewart.com]

We didn't actually wring out clothing, yeah we gave it a half-hearted twist or two to get the majority of the water out, but nothing too hard. After all we were hanging the cloths on the line immediately.

Thick materials, like Jeans we 'spun'. Hold one end and swing it around and around in a fast circle. Of course you need to step away from the house to do that.

It is hard, hard labor, takes a lot of time and frankly I am way to happy to own a wash machine and dryer now days.
