VST Experts, please help!
Quote

Total Noob here.

I've got Ministry of Rock, which is 3 virtual instruments. It's installed and working properly.

I have a akai lpk 25 midi controller, seems to be working properly.

Asio is in place on my x-fi Fatality card.

I primarily use Acid Pro for recording and mixing music.

How in the hell do I record my virtual instrument???

Ministry of Rock has no record function, and Acid can't use the Midi device when virtual instrument is open, so I can't record a midi track there either.

Can I just play the instrument and have that record somehow or am I totally missing something?

Further, if I record it somehow in acid, can I play along with existing loops already in the project or will it re-record those too?

Mininstry of Rock has some really high-quality insruments but it seems that other than playing with them, I can't actually USE them.

Please help, thanks

in acid add the vst instrument
(if you are having a problem doing that , get a more recent version of acid)
create a midi track
make sure your midi keyboard is detectectd (midi options)
(it needs to plugged in and turned on before you start acid)
you need to configure the midi input and output for each midi track you create.

I'm actually kind of having the same problem with ministry of rock. I'm using Reaper as my DAW, but won't read any of the plugins from MOR. I can however create a virtual instrument track...I can use all my NI Komplete, but cannot get MOR to work.

Yes, this seems to be a ministry of rock problem, however I might be going about it the wrong way.

Well you can record the midi inputs surely and then that midi track will play back through which every VST or midi instrument you want to assign it too. It sounds odd that Acid Pro cannot accept midi input at the same time as a virtual instrument. I'm more of an old school Cubase kind of guy but I would have expected a $300 piece of software ought to be able to support VST instruments properly. Are you sure you aren't running Acid Pro and the stand alone version of MoR rather than the VST plug in?

If you actually want to record the actual audio output of the VST instrument though that's something different. Unless you are running out of voices though I don't know why you would need to do that just yet.

Re: VST Experts, please help!Quote

dude im a noob too. but to record those vsts i would generate an audio track not midi, and record the 'what you hear' audio. its bloody complicated i know.

theres also another option and that is creating a midi score and using the vst to play it whilst using an audio track to record the output.

software wise i btw try sonar 8 producer edition if you can. its insane.

another option, try running a search on the net for acid tutorials, and take the time to try and complete them.

you know your midi controller, can it operate those dials on the vst...

that would be really nice. i use a roland xp 10 its ok but the only dial i can operate somtimes is the pitch control and tremlow.

the dials you have to operate with the mouse which is spoils the feel.

Re: VST Experts, please help!Quote

these progs i find great but i find them overall far far too complicated.

Try actually composing a piece of music on them(actually its too hard dont even try)

I find myself composing on programs like guitar pro 5 and then exporting the midi to these super over complicated apps. But even getting them to do that properly becomes a nightmare.

Re: VST Experts, please help!Quote

Using a VST instrument in ACID
Insert soft synth (button is on the mixer)
Create midi track
set midi input on the track for your external midi keyboard
Set the midi output on that track for your VST
Arm for record
You should now be able to hear your VST instrument when you use the ext.midi keyboard
Then try a test record to check if it is recording properly
