Those "health indicators" do not take into consideration things that matter like our cancer survival rates being the HIGHEST IN THE WORLD and no other country even close. We have lower life span because we actually LIVE instead of leading the more confined lifestyles of some. More private car ownership for more traffic accidents for example. But it does bring down the average life span.
We have more diverse ethnic groups as well and some have higher infant mortality globally, not just in this country, for another.
Those of you who have never known a real healthcare system don't know what you are talking about. Why is our National Hospital full of foreign dignitaries at all times coming here for treatment from all over the world?
As for the cost, well you get what you pay for, doncha? At least if we can work out the payments, we can actually have the healthcare here, something illegal in countries with socialized systems.
Insolvency from appedectomy? Hardly unless you were there already. You just trash our system because you want the whole world to have one that sucks like yours so obviously must do or you wouldn't have to lie about ours.

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--A new law to boost minimum wages and pensions by 20% in Ukraine is a threat to the crisis-stricken country's economic stability, the head of the International Monetary Fund said Friday.
"We are concerned about the implementation of the law," IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn said.
The statement comes after the IMF has doled out nearly $11 billion in loans to the eastern European nation as part of a larger $16.4 billion aid package but before it has approved the disbursement of the next installment of funding, valued at about $3.8 billion.
The new Ukrainian law could derail the loan arrangement between Ukraine and the IMF and jeopardize arrangements the country has made to receive a loan from the European Commission.
The IMF has said the law conflicts with the goals of its loan program. Earlier this week, the IMF said its program would allow for a 10% increase in wages and pensions, but that anything above that "would place an unsustainable burden on public finances."
A 10% increase would be in line with inflation, but Ukrainian trade unions have been pushing for more, saying current IMF restrictions are place an "excessive burden" of the country's fiscal adjustment on labor.
Complicating the situation is division among Ukrainian officials over the policy.
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko signed the law, but Deputy Prime Minister Hryhoriy Nemyria has called it "irresponsible" and "politically motivated."
Nemyria ally Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is running against Yushchenko in an election scheduled for January.
Nemyria said the government is in talks with the IMF to look for "exceptional solutions to this exceptional situation," but declined to provide further details.
Strauss-Kahn said Friday, "We understand that there is disagreement among the authorities on how to proceed, but we continue working with them in the hope that they come together to reach a position that will allow early completion of the review."
Ukraine has been among the countries hardest hit by the global recession. Its economy is projected to contract by 15% this year.

The Russian Prime Minister’s warning of a gas conflict relates to mounting tension in Ukraine between Yulia Tymoshenko, the country’s Prime Minister, and President Yuschenko. Both are candidates in presidential elections due to be held in January and Russia hopes that the winner will be more sympathetic to Moscow than the incumbent. According to Mr Putin, Mr Yuschenko is blocking the transfer of funds needed to pay for gas. Furthermore, the IMF thinks paying for Russian gas out of Ukraine’s foreign reserves is possible,” Mr Putin said.
A fifth of Europe’s gas arrives in Europe through pipelines that traverse Ukraine. In January 2006, arguments over unpaid gas bills led to Gazprom cutting supplies to Ukraine, which in turn led to severe shortages felt across Central Europe and in Germany, Italy and France.
However, the EU has been reluctant to step into the breach and lend money to Ukraine to pay for gas.
The recession is increasing the financial pressure on Gazprom to secure payment, but it is also likely to stay the utility’s hand in any new winter threat to cut off supplies. Demand for gas has fallen sharply in Europe amid the contraction in industrial activity and Gazprom will be reluctant to take any action that might reduce shipments to European customers.
Europe’s big utilities, including E.ON, of Germany, Eni, of Italy, and GDF-Suez, of France, are clamouring for price renegotiations after a fall of almost two thirds in the spot price of natural gas. Plentiful supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) are undercutting Russia’s pipeline gas markets.

If you live in northern latitudes, you should be taking probably 5,000 iu of vitamin D per day. I take 3,000 iu and that probably isn't enough to store any vitamin D, I probably use that much daily.
Sunshine in southern climates will give you 20,000 iu per day.
And it gives it to you in about 20 minutes, but it takes weeks to process it through your skin. So you need to have vitamin D all the time.
Better to not get the flu, then to be treated with vitamin D in mega doses after you get it. |
