Gold investment

Ok....we're all concerned about the future of the dollar...and we may be thinking of preserving our assets....so...other than buying physical Gold or Silver to last after a possible collapse of our economic system, I was wondering if anyone knew of a fund etc. that backs their investment philosophy with physical Gold and could ultimately return wealth at a later date in some currency (possibly even foreign) that has some value on the world financial market.

Asians just opened a new Gold ETF backed by physical. I would not trust any paper asset to ever be able to deliver on the physical.

When it comes right down to it; if you don't got it, you just don't get it. (That last sentence is not mine, but you can find it on the 'net.)

Don't overthink it. There will always be a medium of exchange. Sure it might be in the crapper, but if you play it right your investments will have moved with it.

I like GDX and the soon to be released GDXJ.

Thanks for any or all input.
I need to move into something that can keep some value. Land ain't bad but I fear that someone or whatever is left of the gov't could eventually take it.

Good to hear. Do your homework. It all depends on what you think will happen. Buying stock has it's downfalls just like land.

The government might impose a 80% tax rate on gold/miners. In that case a few gold coins might be best.
GDX also has a couple stinkers, ABX has a horrible balance sheet.

last week I moved a chunk from SLV to CEF on rumors SLV does not really have physical. Look up the symbols.

If you don't hold the gold, you don't own it. I don't buy paper gold, I buy the real thing. If you buy paper gold, you're putting your trust in the people that got us here in the first place. Think long and hard about what I just said...

Re: Gold investmentQuote

diversify between some paper gold and some in the hand.

That way if the paper goes, you have in the hand. And if you get robbed, you still have some paper gold.

Re: Gold investmentQuote

I even wonder if an offshore investment might be a good idea since our economic system and the dollar could collapse and maybe a foreign investment in assets and their currency might be an alternative. I also guess that there are no guarantees for anything in this world. Maybe there is a mutual fund that invests in guns and ammo.? LOL
