I'm not sure I would trust this admin and Congress to back me on a first strike initiative if I was standing in Israel's shoes.

If there is a limited proportionate response (you could argue the definition of that all night) then I think the US may just say "You brought it on yourselves", but if there is a massive reaction I don't think there would be any hesitation in the US backing Israel.
