Most of the people going joining lately are usually in they're early 20's and even 30's *for the navy at least* very few 18 year olds are even present, and the ones that are, have to wait 2 years due to jobs being completely full, and 80% of them are current predesignated, since they are being over shadowed by more qualified individuals who already have college degree's and past work history, or qualify for a top secret clearance for those harder to fill jobs in the past, are now decked out 110% full in some cases.

Reality is they are just keep raising and raising standards, you have to pass your Physical fitness test twice a year now in most cases, and if you fail it more than 3 times *requiring a retake usually a month afterward* you are in endanger of not being allowed to reenlist or in worst case, an early retirement.

And on top of all this they are cutting down the fleet size while there's a explosion of applicants, laying off sailers telling them they can't reenlist.

At least that's the story with the navy, I know the army is increasing its ranks though.
