Old WHite Russian (OP) User ID: 810501 Canada 11/04/2009 07:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You still have to register hand guns. Also you must have a firearms license to buy any gun and/or ammo. There are also still safe storage laws. You must store guns and ammo separate properly locked up. (it keeps the kids safer). I see the abolishment of the long gun registry as a nice thing for Hunters. Regardless it likely will not affect the crime rate at all since criminals tend to use handguns and assault style weapons. The one thing it will do for sure is save money. The auditor general is out to lunch when she says 3 million a year. It probably be 10 times that anyways. |
Old White Russian (OP) User ID: 810501 Canada 11/04/2009 07:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The vote has passed second reading and in Canada that pretty well means its a slam dunk done deal. It goes to commitee next and then in January it should go to the senate which will have a Conservative majority (conservatives are against the Gun registry). That means t will automatically pass the senate. It is 99% a done deal to happen. It makes me happy. It was money wasting law to begin with. Give the savings to law enforcement so they can hire more police for the Urban areas. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 601353 Canada 11/04/2009 07:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I love your positive outlook on the 99%. Would love for this to pass but I will be 200% shocked if it actually did. It is a HUGE WASTE OF TAX MONEY. It is a flopped UN pyramid scheme set up by the RED. Canadians have no idea how much cash has been funneled through. It makes the RED adscam look like peanuts. Although none will compare to the UN RED driven climate taxes. Bring us to our knees! |

Yip and you have to take the 1 day safety course written/hands on so you can identify all cartridges and shot gun shells and make sure the barrel is clear etc. and actually handle a weapon safely. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 481377 Canada 11/04/2009 09:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is great news. I live in Canada, and am about to take the course and get the license so I can get a say, a 10/22, high powered rifle of some sort, and a 12 gauge. Under registration I'd need to fork out money to register/renew for each of those guns every five years, and most of the time they'd just be sitting locked away in my closet since I live in a major city and won't be able to get out to shoot much in the short term. Now that registration is gonna be gone it will be less of a financial burden to obtain have these tools at my disposal. Thank fuck for some common sense out of our politicians for a change. |

SickDaveMondo User ID: 512195 Canada 11/04/2009 10:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So if I wanted to obtain a gun for hunting purposes, what would I do to get one? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 810612buy one After you obtain your PAL (possession and acquisition lisence) which is a 2 day course that costs about $160. Then wait for a month or three for the RCMP to send you the actual license after they review your background and test results. Then get a small game license, which is about $130 or something and another weekend long course if I'm not mistaken. Not sure for bigger game like deer, I know you need tags for deer but I haven't looked in to it yet. It still is a pain in the ass and a long process if you are staring from scratch. I'm glad I got all my guns and ammo befor all this gun law crap passes in the U.S. No body even knows I have guns unless I tell them. When I was in the gun course, the instructor mentioned that buying large quantities of ammo would get you flagged in the system. He also said that you may then receive an inspection by a cop or peace officer. I asked him to define "large" as my definition of large may be different than the next persons. He seemed to get annoyed with me at this point and just stated "Well, you can't just go stockpiling ammo you know" at which point I dropped it. I just wanted my license and to get the fuck outta there. It sucks up here man, I don't know if he was yanking my chain about that. I do know that my license came with a separate, non laminated piece of paper that states "This document must be carried at all times with the PAL and must be produced at the request of a peace officer or Law Enforcement Official", or something close to that. So now, not only do I ALWAYS have to carry my PAL, I have a flimsy piece of shit paper that I ALWAYS have to carry that has no information on it other than stating I have to carry it. fucked up, eh? Anonymous Coward User ID: 564424 United States 11/04/2009 11:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wendy Cukier of the Coalition for Gun Control says firearm deaths such as suicides and murders of women have declined during the time the registry has been in place. The mother of one of the slain Montreal students made a public appeal this week imploring MPs to preserve the gun registry. Quoting: Old White Russian 810501Is this person actually trying to say that a person is less likely to commit suicide if their gun is registered? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 810518This is real DOOM and Canadians know it. They're smarter than the average bear. Actually, It is likely in expectancy of hordes of starving Americans massing north across the border looking for bear meat - after they have all the Mormon food larders cleaned out. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 670888Anyone can buy rifles or shotgun without registering? That's right even 2 year olds. That's wrong, nobody can but a firearm without a firearms license. 2 year olds can not get a firearms licence. |
