As a former company commander with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam, and a graduate of the National Security Course, National Defense University, Washington, DC and as a retired brigadier general who served active army duty in the Middle East, I ask you to break away from the strangling Israeli lobby, AIPAC, and do the right thing for peace in the Middle East. This Israeli lobby has been corrupting our politicians far too long and has resulted in more violence than ever between the Israelis and the Palestinians with no sign of any improvement in years ahead. In addition, the Israelis have nearly wiped Gaza and south Lebanon off the map with their disproportionate attacks.

I write to ask you to please vote no on H. Res. 867. This bill calls on President Obama to unequivocally oppose the Goldstone Report, but makes no mention of the administration’s call for a credible, independent Israeli investigation into Israeli conduct during Operation Cast Lead.

This bill flies in the face of the growing chorus of Israeli voices, across the political spectrum and in and outside of government, who understand that a credible Israeli investigation is in Israel’s best interest.

As your constituent I ask that you stand for the rule of law, defend the concerns of a wide spectrum of Israelis and help to bring some relief to the civilian population in the Gaza Strip. Please vote no on H. Res. 867.
