U.S. Boy, 11, declared reincarnated holy man
Quote

[link to web.orange.co.uk]

A US boy is not going back to school - after he was declared the reincarnation of a Buddhist holy man who first died in 1250.

Boston-born Jigme Wangchuk, 11, has now moved to India where he has been made the head of a Buddhist sect in the country's eastern Darjeeling city.

His parents say they discovered their son was not like other children two years ago when he started talking about his "past life".

At first, they dismissed it as a childish fantasy, but began taking it seriously during a trip to a monastery in Mysore, southern India.

At one point, he went into a trance in which he described a celebrated Buddhist monastery with a 35ft dragon on the roof.

After hearing his description of the temple he had never visited, the monks proclaimed he was the reincarnation of the 'Rinpoche' or high priest Galwa Lorepa, the founder of one of the four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism.

Now he will spent the next ten years in virtual seclusion and only be able to communicate with his former school friends by email.

"It has been a very difficult period for us over the past two years. I have been crying for the past five months, but have, at last, come to terms with it," said his mother Dechen.

"When we were in New Delhi on our way to Darjeeling, I asked him whether he would like to go back to Boston. He said he has to fulfil his responsibilities to his people."

But for 'His Holiness' Jigme, there's no regrets: "I will miss my school days but I am happy in my new role. I like it here," he said.

And this is not child abuse? TO take a kid out of his normal life, call him a holy man, slam him into isolation in a remote country....

He should zap his parents down since he has all that power...

3000 years ago 11 yr olds were running kingdoms.
"I have long believed that a man who spurns the Christian faith outright is more respected before God and the heavenly powers than the man who pretends to religion but refuses to come under its total domination. The first is an overt enemy, the second a false friend. It is the latter who will be spewed out of the mouth of Christ; and the reason is not hard to understand." - A.W.Tozer

I've read similar stories about kids that claim to have lived before.
But this child in this photo does not look happy.
Perhaps his parents should have examined the idea that he returned (this time) just to be a normal kid.

Jigme Wangchuk, an 11-year-old boy based in Boston, was today enthroned near Darjeeling as the reincarnation of Gyalwa Lorepa, a monk who passed away in 1250 AD.

The boy has now become a rinpoche (high priest) of a Buddhist sub-sect called Drukpa that traces its lineage to Kagyu. Kagyu is one of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The Dalai Lama belongs to another sect called Gelugpa but is revered by the entire Tibetan community as he is its spiritual and political leader.

Just as the Dalai Lama is known as the 14th incarnate, the boy will be revered as the Second Gyalwa Lorepa among the sect’s followers who number lakhs and spread over mostly Ladakh, Nepal and Bhutan.

The fifth-grader from Boston’s St Peter’s School will now have to spend the rest of his life at the Druk-Sa-Ngag Choeling monastery at Dali, 3km from Darjeeling. He can visit Boston later in his life but to deliver discourses. If he badly misses his friends back in the US — he is an American citizen now — he can speak to them but the conversation cannot be as carefree as what 11-year-olds usually indulge in.

During his training, which can stretch up to a decade, the Second Gyalwa Lorepa is not expected to speak to lay persons.

But the boy can send emails — a digital window to the world he referred to today while fielding questions in writing. “As for my friends, I will contact them through email,” he said.

The reincarnate touched upon some things he has left behind. “It is a big transition, and yes, I do miss being a joyful schoolboy and my friends, my home, my grandparents, aunts and uncles.”

The rinpoche added later: “In fact, I already miss them” but took solace in the fact that his parents had moved to Darjeeling to serve him.

His parents — Chosang, a businessman, and mother Dechen — is planning to send his kid sister Tashi Norzum to a school in Darjeeling. “We have left Boston and have to live in Darjeeling along with my husband Chosang and my 10-year-old daughter Tashi Norzum,” Dechen said.

The rinpoche also acknowledged the enormity of the occasion. “But being a rinpoche is such a great honour and I feel blessed with my past responsibilities,” he wrote in reply to a question.

“It is after 700 years that the reincarnation has arrived,” said Karma Rinpoche, the boy’s uncle.

Reincarnations are identified through an elaborate procedure. In 2007, when the boy was visiting the Kagyu-Nalanda monastery near Mysore, he had spoken of his past life describing his vision of monasteries as they stood then, including one in Bhutan.

“He talked about the monastery (in Bhutan) being situated in a rocky area of the Himalayas with a 35-foot-long dragon adorning its rooftop,” recalled Karma Rinpoche. Four hours after the boy recited his vision, the 12th incarnate of Tsangpa Gyare — another Drukpa monk — sent word to the family, recognising the boy as Gyalwa Lorepa.

The first Lorepa had received his initial teachings from the first Gyare. After Gyare passed away, Lorepa had meditated on Mount Kailash for 13 years and founded the Tharpa Ling monastery in Bhutan. His followers belong to the Drukpa lineage, which is part of the Mahayana sect of Buddhism.

“I even visited the monastery in Bhutan to see if it really matches with his description. When I found it was true, I realised he was the real incarnate,” mother Dechen said.

Today, as the drone of gyaling (a Tibetan musical instrument) rose from the monastery on a mild day — it was 20 degrees Celsius in Darjeeling and 11 degrees Celsius in Boston — the rinpoche wrote down the answer to the third and last question: “I like it here.”

OK - Sooooo, he already had a life as a holy man. Maybe now it is time for him to experience something else. If he was supposed to be a monk in this life - don't you think he would have been born in that area of the world.

Personally - I think they are fucking the kid up - not allowing him to be a child.

Absolutely BANG on!

Religion should be only allowed into the life of a person by LAW to someone who is of 18 or over!

People are not allowed to buy alcohol prior too 18 or 21!

People are not allowed to buy smokes until they are 16 - 18 - 21!

Religion in my view falls into the same category - a childs mind is not developed enough to make religious choice. If you bring a child up in that kind of environment - i do not care what any religious person says, this kind of behavior is not defendable - it is just as bad as fundamental Islam brainwashing suicide bombers for religious gratification - they know no different!

IT IS WRONG - You know I know it the world knows it - yet still people choose to brainwash there kids into believing there is an all powerful entity that made the universe in 6 days rested on the 7th and yet cannot build his own fooking church!

I don't think he would have remembered this now, especially in the place where he was at the time, if he were not meant to be a holy man again this time. Maybe he has been normal for the past 700 years and came back this time to be a holy man again. Maybe there is a reason for this at this particular time that we don’t know of yet.
Maybe the world needs him right now at this point in history for some yet unbeknown reason.
He actually looks resolved to me. Maybe he knows more than we realize. Maybe he knows the times we are about to enter and the tests we are about to face. Maybe he knows something we don't.

What I don't understand is, even if he is the reincarnated whoever the hell, why do they force them to live the same life over and over again? What is the point of dying? He's a whole new person now - let him live his life!

no, that was 'Golden Child'.

Little Buddha ia with Keanu Reeves and tells the life of Buddha(Prince Siddharta) and interwoven into the movie is the story of a young boy in the USA who is visited by three tbetan monks who believe the boy is the reincarnation of their Lama. Parents differ on the subject, but stuff hapens so the father goes to Tibet with his son after a friend took his own life.
Good drama and visually very beautiful, good story line, intelligent flick.

Google it if you wanna know more:)

The monk that died 700 years ago obviously had strong beliefs and has been 'reincarnating' himself by obsessing living people and forcing his will on them, or it could be one that is just using his name. This child was malleable enough that he has been able to clearly express himself trough him, and the child's real soul has either been forced out or is being kept subdued. This child needs to be released from this powerful spirit and that spirit needs to be sent to where he belongs. This is a spiritual crime. Excorcism is called for I think. I don't believe reincarnation is anything but a powerful false belief and it can cause a lot problems.
