No explosion, no super nova, it's just going to flicker a few times and then go black.
It's going to be horrible. Within a matter of days the temp will drop to hundreds of degrees below zero. Everyone will know they are going to die days before they actually freeze to death.
In a last desperate attempt the USA will launch a nuclear missle at the sun to attempt to re-ingnite it. The missle will work and the sun will re-ignite but it will take months for the missle to reach the sun. But by then it will be to late for 99.9% of mankind. |

Not necessarily. Someone who could build a dwelling near a geothermal vent (volcanic activity would still continue for a while) would survive much longer. |
