Will enter the Gulf as a Tropical Storm. Most likely will be a Cat 1-3 by the time it hits. Most likely between New Orleans and Tampa Bay. |

The Weather channel was just reporting it could enter the Gulf of Mexico by Tuesday. |

Looks like it will be a strong Tropical Storm as it enters the Gulf, just barely past Cancun. Should easily make level 1-2 hurricane before landfall. Estimate 2-3 days in the gulf. |

Scratch that, just updated.
Looks like at least 3 days in the Gulf, with a turn towards the FL panhandle. |

It's the effect of El Nino, not "Global Warming".
But yes, I am sure he will credit it to that. |

Around 20 years ago, we had a hurricane enter the Gulf around this same time. So this is not un-heard of.
I too believe it is El Nino related. |

Wrong. Temps are at 30c which is hurricane fuel.
Temps closer to the shore are around 25-26 c, which is weaker, but that is over night temps.
So it would depend on what time of day it hit, and what part of the rebuilding cycle it is in.
Further, there is a large high pressure system moving across the southwester US right now that will move into the gulf area this weekend.
That high pressure system is bringing record temps to Colorado right now. So there is no way to know what the water temps will be mid next week, but they will surely be higher than the current temps.
PS - You should really try to educate yourself before you talk. |

No where does it claim a hurricane is going to even form much less hit new orleans. Dont worry, i'll be sure to bump this p.o.s. thread after the weekend to laugh at your fear mongering self. |

Wrong. I have already corrct myself, if you read the entire post.
Only one path has it going toward Gulf Port area.
The rest appear to steer toward FL panhandle.
In case you are not aware, just because the path stops, does not mean that is where the storm stops. Projections paths are 5 days only.
So, if you are too sesnsitive for some common sense projections based upon typical tropical devlopement in the Gulf, I can wait until nect tuesday and post it then.
By then, the forcast models will clearly show land fall of a strong TS - CAT2 storm somewhere in the US gulf coast. |

You can choose which variables and projections you want to see.
To note, there is a correlation and agreement between Wundermap, NOHA, and the Navy Tropical tracker, that shows Ida as a strong TS just north of Cancun as of next Tuesday, 11/10. Paths seem to indicate a gradual turn to the east.
As mentioned, unknown strength forcast past Tuesday. HOWEVER, all tropical storms that enter the gulf strengthen or maintain. Water is always warm there, even this time of year.

Still pretty warm comparitively. Obviously not as warm as July, but it is only 2-4 C lower. Of course, it is cooler in the more shallow waters along the coast, though those warm up by mid to late day. |

Hurricane Paloma hit 145 mph last November. Quoting: Doominator 162364
Good call:
[link to en.wikipedia.org]
Paloma developed out of a strong tropical disturbance off the eastern coast of Nicaragua and northern coast of Honduras on November 5. The disturbance had slowly developed into a tropical depression while hugging the coastline. The depression strengthened into a tropical storm early on November 6, then a hurricane later that day. The next day, Paloma intensified into a Category 2 hurricane then soon a Category 3. Early on November 8, Paloma continued to intensify and reached Category 4 intensity, and then weakened rapidly into a Category 2 before making landfall in Santa Cruz del Sur, Cuba.[1] |
