 | | Re: How many Ebooks or real books are in your personal libary | Quote | I'm a big library user. I normally have about 10 books checked out at a time.
But happen to have several disc with hundreds of books and access to thousands via the internet.
A majority of my books are cookbooks, reference books, how-to and art books.

 | | Re: How many Ebooks or real books are in your personal libary | Quote | I did a very sketchy count, I have 16 30" shelves stuffed full of books, 4 file boxes packed full, and 4 overflowing grocery bags full of books here right now.
I figured 30 books per shelf, box or bag - that is probably an underestimate. So my rough, conservative count was 750 books.
I brought 5 new ones home last night - those weren't included in the count lol.
My collection is almost all non-fiction, in fact I have tried to make an effort to acquire some more classic fiction to round things out.
I have extensive libraries on sewing, patternmaking, business, horses, drawing, fashion history, costume design, perfume and aromatherapy, gardening - all aspects of gardening - cooking and food preservation, alternative house building, ETC.
It is fucking nuts trying to accomodate all this lol. |

The time is now to get hold of what you can.
I have nearly 500 books on conpiracys everyting from Ancient civilizations and underground cities, Aliens and Aspartame to masons, illuminati, cia, undergournd history, mars, mkultra, nwo, mind control , eugenics, basically any conspiracy theory you ahve ever heard of. yea,, i wonder some day if i would have to use my books to start up a new society if we have a TEOTWAKI and survive it.
But ive just realized i am going to need books on masonary, architechture, engineering, building, agriculture before i even think about being able to use my books for teaching science, history and philosophy. Such is the luxarys of our current society. Practice makes perfect, if the thing you are practising is perfect to begin with! |

And yes, I have a nice copy of Emily Post's Etiquette, sitting right next to the bible.
She worked as an interior decorator, I think her father was an architect? She wrote a book you would enjoy called
The Personality of a House, and her main message in that book was you should arrange everything about your house to please yourself, you should have everything your own way, just the way you like it and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. She said your house should express own individual self so much, that when someone would walk in, they would instantly know it was your house and no one else's. |

gus User ID: 811815 11/6/2009 1:43 PM | | Re: How many Ebooks or real books are in your personal libary | Quote | Hey OP besides printing some books, I suggest that people buy an e-book reader that allows you to store any document format (no digital rights bullshit). As an alternative, I have bought a digital photo frame from Samsung and I have converted it into an e-book reader. I print my PDFs as grayscale JPEG images, one for each page. Then I do some image processing on them, and I transfer them to the photo frame via USB. It has 1GB of internal memory and it supports SD memory cards. It is very handy, and photo frames support 16 million colors while E-book readers only support 16 shades of grey. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 811684 (OP) 11/6/2009 3:09 PM | | Re: How many Ebooks or real books are in your personal libary | Quote | Well my initial idea was to get hold of enough stuff that if the internet went down i would be ok for the rest of my life maybe another 70 yrs.
Im fine with reading ebooks on my lcd monitor, and non of my files contain DRM copyright b.s.
If electricity was gone or we had an EMP strike i would be screwed. I have an 8GB USB flash survivor that comes with a tube that is 200m water resistant and fully shock resistant and drop tested aircraft grade aluminium. it would contain the PDF, DEJA VU, LIT reader software so that any computer i could get it to would beable to read the e books. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 811684 (OP) 11/6/2009 3:22 PM | | Re: How many Ebooks or real books are in your personal libary | Quote | i wonder if there is some kind of affect that the printed word on paper has in comparison to it existing as digital information on a computer screen. I mean come to think of it,, when i pick up a real book and read it, its asif more data is encoded into it, you get a differnt feel than you do reading off a screen...
does the printed symbol some how manifest deeper meaning?.,... |

Na, it's OK to bump your own threads now and then. Zec 12:3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
Psa 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, [and] all the nations that forget God.
STOCK UP NOW. You should have at least 6 months worth of basics for every member of your household. Stay away from crowds when trouble starts, do not forget water storage, tobaccos worth more than gold or silver, and be kind to hungry children. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 811684 (OP) 11/6/2009 4:38 PM | | Re: How many Ebooks or real books are in your personal libary | Quote | Heres a few excrypts from the book so far only up to page 10
The content of our experience results from an immaterial,
abstract, geometric architecture which is composed of harmonic waves of energy,
nodes of relationality, melodic forms springing forth from the eternal realm of geometric proportion.
The ancient astronomers designated
the movement and position of celestial
bodies through angular notation. The
varied angular positions of the sun,
moon, planets and stars were related to
the cyclic changes in the natural world,
such as moon phases, seasons, tides,
plant growth, human and animal fertility,
etc.
Today the newly emerging science of heliobiology verifies
that the angular position of the moon and planets does affect the electromagnetic and cosmic radiations
which impact with the earth, and in turn these field fluctuations affect many biological processes.( is this the reason why real astrology is hidden from us, its portrayed as junk science and connmen?? a glp conspiracy...)
Modern thought has difficult access to the concept of the archetypal
because European languages require that verbs or action words be associated with
nouns. We therefore have no linguistic forms with which to image a process or
activity that has no material carrier.
Functioning then at the archetypal level, Geometry and Number describe fundamental,
causal energies in their interwoven, eternal dance. It is this way of seeing
that stands behind the expression of cosmological systems as geometric configurations.
For example, the most revered of all Tantric diagrams, the Sri Yantra, images
all the necessary functions active in the universe through its nine interlocked
triangles.
For Plato, Reality consisted of pure essences or archetypal Ideas, of which the
phenomena we perceive are only pale reflections.
Geometry was the language recommended by Plato as the clearest
model by which to describe this metaphysical realm. |

We have books in storage. We have books stored in my parents' attic. We have books in her mother's house. I can't even guess how many we have altogether. |

I think reading them and storing the knowledge in your brain is the key to survival. Likely, you will be forced to be on the move, and all you will have is what you have already read about and learned to rely on. |
