PELOSI: Buy a $15,000 Policy or Go to Jail
JCT Confirms Failure to Comply with Democrats’ Mandate Can Lead to 5 Years in Jail
Friday, November 06, 2009

Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.

In response to the JCT letter, Camp said: “This is the ultimate example of the Democrats’ command-and-control style of governing – buy what we tell you or go to jail. It is outrageous and it should be stopped immediately.”

Key excerpts from the JCT letter appear below:

“H.R. 3962 provides that an individual (or a husband and wife in the case of a joint return) who does not, at any time during the taxable year, maintain acceptable health insurance coverage for himself or herself and each of his or her qualifying children is subject to an additional tax.” [page 1]

- - - - - - - - - -

“If the government determines that the taxpayer’s unpaid tax liability results from willful behavior, the following penalties could apply…” [page 2]

- - - - - - - - - -

“Criminal penalties

Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual:

• Section 7203 – misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.

• Section 7201 – felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.” [page 3]

When confronted with this same issue during its consideration of a similar individual mandate tax, the Senate Finance Committee worked on a bipartisan basis to include language in its bill that shielded Americans from civil and criminal penalties. The Pelosi bill, however, contains no similar language protecting American citizens from civil and criminal tax penalties that could include a $250,000 fine and five years in jail.

“The Senate Finance Committee had the good sense to eliminate the extreme penalty of incarceration. Speaker Pelosi’s decision to leave in the jail time provision is a threat to every family who cannot afford the $15,000 premium her plan creates. Fortunately, Republicans have an alternative that will lower health insurance costs without raising taxes or cutting Medicare,” said Camp.

According to the Congressional Budget Office the lowest cost family non-group plan under the Speaker’s bill would cost $15,000 in 2016.

It jist keeps gettin' better!

Of course, every horrendous piece of legislation is passed with token protest. If not passed, it'll be back with renewed virulence in a matter of a few months.

Meanwhile, we're losing our jobs, being priced out of living, and these clowns are purposefully intent upon hurrying along the process of our demise.

Americans will watch it on tv and say it is a good and american thing.

I don't even have house ins on my brand new house. It's concrete, fireproof, and in a low crime neighborhood. Had it and they kept pilling on exemptions where it basically didn't cover much. Ditched it.

I am going to laugh so hard if this happens. Instead of getting free healthcare, the complainers ("I don't have insurance so I can't get medical care!!) are going to be forced to buy insurance. They'll wished they had just paid to see a doctor and then shut up about it. Never trust a Democrat when he makes promises.

WHAT A BUNCH OF CROOKS.

Remember the house memo? JUST LAST WEEK, it was a maximum of 25.000$ and only 1 year in jail...

NOW IT'S 250.000$ and 5 years in jail...

THIS IS JUST GETTING BETTER!

The last memo:

You guys aren't gonna believe the dot to dot I just put together.

Remember the whole labor(fema)camp bill??? remember the story about how they said it will only be used for federal prisoners?

Well this would be a federal crime, not state. Right?

Now with all the jobs disapearing, it would seem we would all end up federal prisoners, thus getting a life sentance in camp happy fun time, because we would NEVER be able to pay off the fine.

So, as soon as we would get out every 5 years, we would get thrown right back in for not paying thefine, as well as not having health care.

Wait for an un-related anti-crime bill to get passed, that would read "3 strikes - your out" law on the federal level.

Plus the healthcare bill has the whole "felony" langage it it already, so no gun rights.

But don't worry if your the elite!!! You have deep pockets, and will never miss what would amount to chicken change.

OMG third fucking identical thread...I repeat!!!

The policy may be 15000 dollars but the premiums are based on your income. There is a chart for it people making less then poverty up to 150% of poverty level will pay up to 500 a year premium for individual and 1000 for a family. Someone say making 35000 a year with 3 kids is slightly less then 150% of poverty and would pay 1000 a year premium the first year the second it would be 1500 premium and the 3rd year 2000 plus their deductable and co-pay. The chart goes right on up thru the income brackets.

The truth is bad enough stop being used to spread disinfo to make us all look like fools and READ THE FUCKING BILL! The chart I quote is on page 242... of course it is still fucked up either way as no one should be getting sent to jail or or pay fines just because they are poor!

Hey look, Im a socialist democrat, but hey, I'm socialist on political issues like the need for universal heatlth care, but I'm very conservative when it comes to money spending. The only reason I have insurance on my truck is that I need liability so that if I'm in a wreck and the cop decides it is partially my fault, whether it really is or not, I don't get sued into bankruptcy. So, I don't like insurance all that much unless I think it is justified.

Look, if the US didn't pay healthcare, I mean a lot of people, a real lot, it would be physically impossible to put everybody in jail. It would drag down the US. They could fine, but they'd have to take out of your bank account or paycheck. If everybody didn't work in protest, I know it is a HUGE 'If" but IF, the government could be brought down.

Personally, I think the concept of "money" preventing us from all having access to health care is bogus, but I can't find a reasonable way to get around the money aspect. Socialism, to an extent does, but try getting everybody to pull the system when others might be slacking off, it doesn't work.

Nancy Pelosi is one of Bernard Madoff's first tier investors. This was a criminal enterprise and it is reported that all first tier investors are being investigated for criminal fraud.

I suspect that Nancy is terrified that she will be brought up on charges and is trying to finalize the take over of America so that she can avoid going to jail. Thus she is literally a 'mad woman' over the Health Care Bill, which is really the 'slavery' bill...a coup de' tat... and TOTALLY unconstitutional.

She is a guilt-ridden, terrified woman, who was probably the Queen who lost her head in another life...you know the one...she said 'let 'em eat cake.' Ya, that one.
