Interesting... If you view the images in the following order, they do appear to be rotating. EIT 171 -> EIT284 -> EIT195 -> EIT304 You can see the bright "prominence" chance postion from the 7'oclock position (171) to the 2'oclock position. And if you note the times... they correspond from early (EIT171) to latest (EIT304) [link to sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov] WTF?

The LASCO C2 image stamped 12:06 shows an object to the left of then sun with an event on the sun's opposite side(possibly some gravitational response?)

The LASCO C3 image stamped 12:18 shows the object entering the sun's radius(or behind it) with the opposite side disturbance decreased noticeably(possibly a result of something entering and drawing it back in?)

The EIT 171 image stamped 19:00 shows the poles in their normal location. Take notice, though, of the small flare-up in the lower left of the sun just above the southern pole. It would help indicate some sort of shift.

The EIT 284 image is stamped 6 minutes later, at 19:06, and appears to show the sun rotating rapidly in counter-clockwise direction. Also note the bright spot that is along the same line as the flare-up from 6 minutes earlier and hwo it's position seems to be moving consistent with the new rotation.

The EIT 195 image stamped 19:13 seems to show what was the southern pole relocated to the northeast portion of the sun. Also notice that the disturbance that was above the southern pole in the EIT 171 image earlier. This disturbance seems to still be located above the pole in the same relative position as before.

Finally, the EIT 304 image stamped 19:19 shows the rotation continuing with only one light distortion in the surface. This distortion is nearly around to the top of the sun and again appears to be in the same relative position with regards to the pole.

19:19 is the last image we have. Will we receive anymore?

I believe it's camera optics. It could very well be the lenses and filters creating this effect.

What I don't understand is the why background is not rotating.

The rotation of the prominence could be explained by the Camera rotation during backout, but it's the background (stars, etc) I'm puzzled over.

That was the CCD bakeout period. During this period they rotate the camera which rotates the camera to the true position which is down/up in relation to earth. They then rotate it again to show Up/Down in relation to earth. At least that's what I read last week or 2

I look at SOHO often and I've never seen the image look like it's spinning before. I'd say this is very weird. Maybe it's happening as a preview to actually being lined up with the Galactic Center in 2012. VERY WEIRD INDEED!!

Indeed! the stars should have all the same rotation of the Sun if it was the camer moving. but they are STILL just the sun "spin"!, and also if you know how these camera work you know there is no way they can caputre in a shot a time that long as to show a rotation like that.

So it is really weird.
