Im going to make this short and sweet.



The UK passed gun legislation in 1997 that almost completely banned guns.

Since then, the number of crimes committed with firearms has increased by about 100%.

However, since the same time, the number of crimes committed with firearms in the US has decreased substantially (by approx 1/2). Interestingly enough, it was not until the late 1990's when most states adopted concealed carry legislation. hmmm.

That link only includes non-fatal firearm crimes, but even if you include the fatal crimes, the trend is still the same.





It seems like the UK could use some good ideas for ways to bring their gun related crime trends in line with ours.



If they don't bring their trends in line with ours, their firearm crime rate could surpass us in a few years. Wouldn't that be an absolute trajedy? Maybe, just maybe, some folks need to stop worrying about the US so much.

Also contributing is that during the time period the OP refers to our borders with eastern European countries have opened. The former Warsaw Pact states still have millions of ex-Soviet firearms 'floating' around - as the Soviets and their allies simply abandoned them or sold them on the black market because during the collapse the soldiers were not getting paid.
