They somehow manage to get the little signs that hang from the rearview mirror indicating they are handicapped, even though they are not. Where I work, I can get fired for parking in a handicapped spot. ------ |

Oh but they have a handicap permit. Meanwhile to meet ADA requirements it seems like I always have to park and walk a quarter mile because of all the front parking spaces are reserved Quoting: lazy fat people 805133KARMA has a way of taking care of these slugs... |

I myself have heart failure due to a virus that attacked my heart muscle. I look like anyone else but my heart only functions at 40% what it should , so I need what little energy I have to get out and not be shut-in. Medications are all they offer me so far but if I begin to have complete heart failure only then can I be on a transplant list. |

I have a family member who looks completely normal, but has a heart condition as well. She is approached quite often by strangers demanding to know what her "handicap" is that allows her to park in the handi spots. People can be incredibly rude; perhaps they should try minding their own business. |
Winningjob User ID: 385114 United States 11/12/2009 01:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If it isn't on their license plate and they do not have a placard, I confront them. I have to load and unload an electric scooter everything I take my mother somewhere and I'll be damned if they are going to get away it. Last time I blocked them in and called the police....piece of shit actually told his son to "HUSH" when his son asked why he was parking in handicapped. |

I BET that the original intent was for people missing limbs or wheelchair bound..........maybe that is why people ask questions. |

I returned a friendly "My handicap is mental and can not be seen from outside" and moved on while giving him a friendly smile that would have made Jack Nicholson proud. Nothing happened, never got a ticket. I somehow noticed that you can stop people in their tracks if you do something they would never have expected. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 816848 United States 11/12/2009 02:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They do need to be more strict about who can get a handicapped placard or plate. I'm disabled, walk with a cane or with just a limp on less painful days. But I never park in handicapped spots. Hey, I'm functional. Why should I take up a space for someone who might need to pull a chair or a walker out of the back of their auto? Anyone who parks in a handicapped spot that's functional and mobile ought to be flogged. Laziness is not a sickness. |

PACNWguy User ID: 688273 United States 11/12/2009 02:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You need a doctor to fill out paperwork that says how long you are handicapped. The maximum time in Oregon is 5 years before you have to renew it. I had one prior to having a total hip replacement. I looked fine but I couldnt walk five feet without being in incredible pain. Also, a driver doesnt need to be the person who is handicapped. If you have someone you drive around who is, you can get a sticker. I would go out with friends in their car and I would take my permit to get a better parking spot. The best thing about the permits is your car doesnt get dinged much as the spaces are much bigger. WrecksDeus User ID: 804239 United States 11/13/2009 11:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I figure I'd pull into the spot right next to them with my car door open and bash the fool out of em......make em an honest person "And though I believe in the ineffable glory of God, and though I might have experienced the undeniable reality of the Deity, and though I may know the secrets of the ages, these do not fulfill the Love in my heart. But to Change and Be and Do and dissolve both the subject of my person and the object of my God into the fluency of Empirical Providence. The Way, the Truth, and the Life." |

"Excuse me sir" (I was very polite) "Do you realize you've parked in a handicap spot?" "Yeah" he said "Kiss my ass. What you gonna do 'bout it?" I then pulled out my .38+P snub and put 4 in his chest Not really, but one can dream, can't one? |
II-Neutron User ID: 812014 Canada 11/14/2009 12:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I worked for a private parking enforcement firm, as the appeals coordinator, I was the lead adjudicator. Needless to say I was hated and had hundreds of people every day fighting with me about their tickets and threats of be trounced in court left right and center. A particularly tough "customer" was this tree hugging hippy type who was a member of a car co-op they time share cars. Well this guy had placed the co-op's car inside a handicapped parking stall in one of our lots. we leased out spots to the co-op but obviously not the handicapped spots. This guy whose last name was Bumstead (I kid you not!) just could not see how he should have to pay the ticket. We ticked the plate so the co-op sent him the 30 day old ticket with the hefty late fees as they did not pay it within the first 15 days. Well this Mr. Bumstead called and tried to fight with me all day one day and it ended in him coming down to the office to duke it out with me! A few of the enforcement officers steered him clear of the office. Seems he was upset as he was not able to use the co-ops cars until he paid the ticket. I called my contact at the co-op and relayed the story to the guy there. Needless to say the WHOLE Co-op had heard about it and Mr. Bumstead was not kicked out of the co-op but if he ever had any hopes of having a member in good standing chip to play well that ship sailed on him. That was just one of hundreds of "violators" Runner up was a guy who's daughter called to appeal a ticket as her father was going to an eye clinic and was legally blind and did not see the posted notice. The kicker is he drove himself to the clinic. Good times :-) Last Edited by II-Neutron on 11/14/2009 12:49 AM [email protected] By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
