(CNN) -- A man who for 20 years has lived near one of six men accused of sexually abusing young relatives said he finds the allegations "absolutely unbelievable."

Bob Ramsey, a retired Graceland University chemistry professor and David Mohler's neighbor in Lamoni, Iowa, said he knows most of the Mohler family.

Burrell Edward Mohler Sr., 77, and his sons Burrell Edward Mohler Jr., 53; David A. Mohler, 52; Jared Leroy Mohler, 48; and Roland Neil Mohler, 47, were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of sexually abusing children.

A sixth family member, Darrel Wayne Mohler, 72, was arrested Friday as he pulled into the driveway of his Silver Springs, Florida home. Darrel Mohler, the younger brother of Burrell Edward Mohler Sr., is being held in jail in Marion County, Florida, charged with two counts of rape in a Missouri arrest warrant.

The six alleged victims -- all now adults -- came to law enforcement authorities with stories of sexual performances, mock weddings, rape with various objects and a forced abortion during their childhoods, according to court documents obtained by CNN affiliate KSHB in Kansas City, Missouri.

None of the accused in the case has entered a plea and it's unclear whether they have legal counsel.

"David was one of the kindest people I know in this town," Ramsey said. "I find it absolutely unbelievable. That's my honest opinion."

Ramsey said he and Burrell Edward Mohler Sr., 77, attended college together 50 years ago. Ramsey said he spent a lot of time with the family because his wife had taught piano to two family members.

"They were in and out of our home quite a bit, and there was absolutely never any indication of abuse," he said.

The employer of one of the suspects said, "Everybody is still in shock ... disbelief," as news of the arrests spread through communities where several of the suspects live in western Missouri.

"He was a good medic," Corbin Allred said of Roland Mohler, who has been employed at Saline County Ambulance District No. 3 since 2006. Mohler has been suspended, Allred said, and further action may be taken at the next board meeting.

Allred described Roland Mohler as outgoing and said, "He blends in with everybody else."

Roland Mohler was on duty when Missouri State Highway Patrol officers arrested him, Allred said.

Paramedic Sharon Roscher was also shocked about allegations that one of their own could be involved in something so horrific.

"You eat, you sleep, you do everything with people for 48 hours," she said. "Oh my gosh, it's just a shock."

Roland Mohler's father, Burrell Edward Mohler Sr., also worked for a time in emergency services as a firefighter in Independence, Missouri, the fire department confirmed. A spokesman would not comment further.

Burrell Mohler Sr., David Mohler and Jared Mohler are lay ministers in the Community of Christ, the organization said.

"Leaders and members of the Community of Christ in the greater Kansas City area are prayerfully upholding those families that are touched by the recent arrests of five members of the Mohler family," the statement said.

Lay ministers are volunteers who do not receive compensation, and none of the three served in leadership roles or worked with children, according to the organization, which is based in Independence, Missouri.

"We have a very strict code of ethics when it comes to the safety of our youth," said the organization's spokeswoman, Linda Booth.

Burrell Mohler Sr. did go through the group's registered youth worker program, but "his youth worker registration has been terminated and we understand he had no contact with children or youth in church programs," the church said.

Some lay ministers might help take care of the church, Booth said, while others might speak at services.



"Immediately, I went to the rolls and had their priesthoods suspended because that's what we do in the Community of Christ when there's any word of something like this. We suspend their priesthoods," Booth said, referring to a church designation for male members.

"If this goes to trial and they are convicted, then they will be what we call silenced, and they can no longer represent the church in any way," Booth said.

The Community of Christ is an offshoot of the modern-day Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It split off from the Mormon church in the 1800s, and in 2000 changed its name to Community of Christ from the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"I personally feel grief for these families, all the families that are involved in this," Booth said. "I feel concern for the congregations." She said she is also "concerned about the greater church, the Community of Christ who represents nations and communities based in love and peace and joy."

I'm surprised everyone already has them convicted and tried and they haven't even been to court yet.

Prosecutor Continues To File Charges Against Family

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Evidence from search warrants released Monday detailed new allegations about what happened on the Mohler family's Bates City-area farm.

Investigators dug for evidence for three days last week on the farm where Burrell Mohler Sr. and his sons lived back in the 1980s and into the mid '90s. According to a sworn affidavit, investigators said a sixth victim has come forward after hearing the news of the allegations against the Mohlers.

The woman claims the Mohlers locked her in the basement and raped her back in 1988. She said she became pregnant twice and, "Following the delivery of the first baby, Burrell E. Mohler Sr. and Burrell E. Mohler Jr. buried the infant in the basement."

The affidavit said the basement floor was dirt when the baby was buried, but was paved shortly thereafter. The witness said the baby was buried in a box underneath the only window in the basement. A searcher using radar located an anomaly "consistent with the shape of a box" buried approximately 12 inches below the concrete.

There is no word on who this person is or her relationship to the Mohlers. The other five victims have said that they knew about the woman, but had no idea who she was.

As the Lafayette County prosecutor looks over new evidence, she went ahead and filed new charges against Burrell Mohler Sr. and his four sons. The Mohlers are already facing charges for allegedly raping two children. The new charges identify a third victim.

The prosecutor indicated that she expects additional charges to be file in the case. Investigators continue to process evidence retrieved from the Bates City farm.

BATES CITY, MISSOURI - At first, people around this small farming town - even the horses grazing alongside the fence - seemed puzzled about the uniformed men who came to dig for the glass jars.

Now they know why. And their curiosity has turned to hand-over-the-mouth shock.

Police say that for years Burrell Mohler and his sons, well known in the Bates City community and active in the church, led a bizarre, ritualistic child sex ring that included bestiality and the rape and sodomy of the elder Mohler's grandchildren.

They held mock weddings in which girls as young as five would be paired with their father, uncles or grandfather and sent to the privacy of a chicken coop for consummation.

Victims, now grown, told investigators that a German shepherd dog was involved in the torrent of sexual assaults that allegedly took place from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s. The victims said they wrote notes detailing the horrific abuse and buried them in glass jars around the farm.

The notes were cries for help, written in hope that people might someday come to know of the horrors that transpired here.

But years passed before authorities finally came to dig for the jars - and possibly a body - with the local sheriff saying indications are that at least one person may have been killed.

This week, Mohler, 77, described as the ringleader of a family sex cult, was arrested and charged with multiple felony counts. Four of his middle-aged sons were also nabbed in coordinated raids.

Late Friday, the law enforcement net stretched like the family tree itself, reaching all the way to Florida to capture the elder's brother, 72-year-old Darrel Mohler. Victims have now surfaced from other states, and reportedly even Canada.

"We still believe there are more victims out there and we want them to come forward," Lafayette County Sheriff Kerrick Alumbaugh said, adding that more charges would be filed in the coming days.

Mohler and his sons - Burrell Jr, 53; Roland, 47; Jared, 48; and David, 52 - are in jail in Lexington and scheduled to appear in court Thursday for formal arraignment.

A judge said he would only accept cash bonds from any of the accused wishing to post bail, he barred them from contact with children.

At an early court appearance, three of the brothers appeared near tears when the judge read the charges.

The alleged crimes came to light in August, when a 26-year-old woman walked into the sheriff's office in Lexington and spoke of the suppressed memories of years of abuse at the hand of her father, uncles and grandfather.

Her four sisters and brother are cooperating with police.

Why now, after all this time?

The cold truth is just now coming to the surface after years of being locked away. Officials initially approached the story, which at first seemed like nothing more than a wild tale, with skepticism.

But investigators then spoke with a sister of the woman, who backed up her account.

After weeks of interviews with other witnesses, they heard the same stories of mock weddings and chicken coops. The sisters told of being forced to line up on a bed on their hands and knees while the family's men raped them.

In court documents filed late Friday, three young sisters were said to have been taken by Mohler to his brother's home for a "sleepover."

When in bed, they heard whispering in the next room. Then Darrel Mohler entered the dark room and allegedly raped two of the girls.

As the story broke this week and investigators arrived with sniffer dogs and equipment to search for the jars, neighbours simply could not fathom the news reports. They drove slowly past the farm, which sits at a T-junction of two gravel roads south of town.

They knew these men, three of them lay clergy in the Community of Christ Church. The elder Mohler gave the Father's Day sermon each year. One of his sons was a firefighter. Another worked at Graceland University for 27 years.

The youngest was a paramedic and a regular at a local barbecue joint. When a waitress heard the news this week, her wrist went weak and baked beans nearly ran off the plate.

"He was in here all the time," she said of Roland Mohler. "Just as nice a fellow as you could imagine. Oh my God! I just can't believe it."

Digging at the farm ended Thursday. Authorities have not said what if any evidence was found.

With a new victim alleging more past sexual atrocities against the children of the Mohler family, 15 more counts came today against five of the six men already named.

Lafayette County authorities last week accused six Mohler men of 16 counts, alleging a torrent of rape, sodomy and bestiality against children barely in elementary school.

The latest victim allegedly told investigators that when she was 6, David Mohler raped her on the ground in a chicken coop. She also said that when she was 7, she and her sister were in bed when Burrell Mohler Jr. entered the room. When she called him by name, he allegedly told them he wasn’t that person but “the bad twin.” Then he allegedly raped them both.

On yet another occasion, she said Jared Mohler put her on his lap and began to rock back and forth with her. When Burrell Mohler Sr. passed the open doorway, he looked inside and allegedly said, “That’s my boy.”

With that encouragement, Jared then raped her, court documents stated.

Burrell Mohler Sr.’s brother, Darrel Mohler, of Florida, is also charged in the investigation that authorities says is producing alleged victims all over the country and continent.

Darrel Mohler initially said he would fight extradition to Missouri, but officials said late today he had changed his mind. He is scheduled to appear before a Florida judge at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
