Gotta Cook A Roast ...
... on the stove, usually I do it in a crock pot, but forgot. Any idea how long that takes? I usually cook it on low over night in the crock pot and it's yummy and tender.

Any tips from you fine cooks out there?

I wouldn't recommend cooking on top of the stove other than to sear the outside.

Unfortunately, I have no other choice - I forgot to put it on last night and it's got to be cooked. :(

If you have a dutch oven, sear the roast in a bit of oil on all sides and then put it into a 350 degree oven for about an hour and a half. Check it with a meat thermometer. Once it reaches 133 degrees, it will be medium rare.

On top of the stove is not your best option, but I would recommend low and slow with a lot of liquid.

Use some wine along with your water or broth, it helps tenderize the meat.

sear with olive oil and garlic, add water and herbs to cover for cooking. Before the roast is finished add potatos, onions and carrots, if ya want to.

No dutch oven, just a big pot with a roof.

Re: Gotta Cook A Roast ...
another option is to slice it up and cook it in beef broth, onions and italian seasonings and have italian beef sandwichwes. MY favorite. Will take about 3 hours.

Re: Gotta Cook A Roast ...
You can still do it in the crock pot, just sear the outside of the roast, sautee the onions, etc, and put the water/sauce in already heated. A crock pot on high should be able to do everything in 2-4 hours depending on how much you cook/heat things.

Re: Gotta Cook A Roast ...
I am actually doing one RIGHT NOW. ONLY use an Outside Round Roast. OIL it, cover it with Montreal Steak Spice ,sear it and put it in the oven with water at 325 for 7 hrs. Use Hunter sauce the last hour its utterly amazing

Re: Gotta Cook A Roast ...
I do this all the time on top of the stove. Just use a large pot and add plenty water and your roast. Cover with a lid and get it to boiling. Then turn your fire down to where it is a slow boil for five hours adding water every hour or so. You will have the most tender roast ever.

Enjoy!

This sounds like the best plan considering the equipment you have available.

Re: Gotta Cook A Roast ...
Oh, and add whatever spices you like from the beginning. Also onions...etc.

Yummy!

Also don't throw the juice that is left away when the roast is through cooking. Just add some veggies and you have a great soup.
