cataracts...how can I get rid of them without surgery???
I've just been told I have them in each eye. Not a huge surprise as I've been seeing halos around car headlights.

I am very concerned about having to go to the hospital and would appreciate any help with Alternative cures.

Re: cataracts...how can I get rid of them without surgery???
I recently had an eye exam, too. The optician said I have the very small beginnings of cataracts. Maybe I do, and maybe I don't but, not taking any chances, I did a search for alternatives to eye surgery for later on.

Started my search with Can-C eye drops, which are kinda expensive at $40.00 for 10 ml.. Kept searching, a time-consuming project. The pay-off was this website. Get about a month's supply for $25.00 and shipping is only $1.95. Hey, not so bad!

I get raw honey from a bee keeper, and his wife has successfully used raw honey (dropped into the eye; it doesn't hurt, it's just slightly uncomfortable for a few moments) got rid of her cataracts.

Note that it has to be raw, unpasteurized honey. Honey is antibacterial, so no there's no need to worry about infection, etc.

Bilberry

Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) contains nutrients that protect eyes from eyestrain or fatigue, and can improve circulation to the eyes. When British Royal Air Force pilots During World War II ate Bilberry preserves before night missions and discovered that their night vision improved afterwards, this herb was investigated and found to be very beneficial for the eyes. Bilberry works by improving the microcirculation and regeneration of retinal purple, a substance required for good eyesight. It is believed that this property is related to the high amount of proanthocyanidins, a type of flavonoid that tends to prevent capillary fragility and strengthen the capillaries which nourish the eyes. Other properties appear to assist in thinning the blood and stimulating the release of vasodilators. Anthocyanin, a natural antioxidant, also lowers blood pressure, reduces clotting and improves blood supply to the nervous system. Anthocyanosides support and enhance the health of collagen structures in the blood vessels of the eyes, thus aiding in the development of strong healthy capillaries that can carry vital nutrients to eye muscles and nerves. Bilberry has long been a remedy for poor vision and "night blindness." Clinical tests have indicated that oral administration of bilberry tends to improve visual accuracy in healthy people and can help those with eye disorders such as pigmentosa, retinitis, glaucoma, and myopia.

Try a naturopath, OP. If you need surgery int he end, if nothing else works, get it, because you will go blind without help.

Re: cataracts...how can I get rid of them without surgery???
I'm 31. Around 10 years ago I was told I have embryonic cataracts in each eye (very small that I was born with and won't get bigger) and the start of cataracts on the bottom of each eye. He said those are probably from spending a lot of time in the pool...from the water reflecting off the water onto my eyes. :( He said truck drivers get the same kind from the sun boucing off the dash. So I'm pretty good about wearing my sunglasses now!

But anyway, it's good to know there are alternatives to surgery! And that the surgery isn't a big deal if it comes to that!

Thanks for all the help everyone! I'll get the bilberry today and this evening, I'll put some raw honey in each eye. A little nervous about that but hey, we often get much worse stuff in our eyes!

If the honey and bilberry don't work, I will get brave and go ahead with the surgery but it's truely my last resort and for sure, I don't want to wait until the cataracts are large.

Beyond one's own mind there is no dazzling light to come shining in from outside to wake one up. If one recognizes one's own intrinsic State as pure from the beginning and only temporarily obscured by impurities, and if one maintains the presence of this recognition without becoming distracted, then all the impurities dissolve. This is the essence of the Path-namkhai norbu.

Why is there a legend about the descent of Christ into hell? The Teacher addressed the lower strata of the astral world, saying: Why, by cherishing earthly thoughts, bind oneself eternally to Earth? And many revolted in spirit and rose higher.

My father, 92 years old, had them done about two years ago.

A PIECE OF CAKE...he couldn`t believe how simple it was and relatively painless.

He sees real good now.

Me too and I had mine under local anaesthesia!I was terrified and the surgeries were so quick and trouble free.....I need ent have worried in the first place. The surgeon did 12 patients in just a few hours. The important thing to realise is that post op you have to make sure not to rub your eyes and use the eye drops as prescribed.I was blind in one eye and partially blind in the other when I had it done because I was also very scared. Now I can see perfectly. It is such a blessing to have ones sight restored!

SOD1 is located in the cytoplasm, copper and zinc, chromosomes 21. Mice lacking SOD1 develop a wide range of pathologies, including hepatocellular carcinoma, an acceleration of age-related muscle mass loss, an earlier incidence of cataracts and a reduced lifespan.

I haven't had cataracts myself but I have a friend whose daughter had them. Doctors couldn't figure out how to get them to go away but my friend came across a liquid vitamin that did it for them. They put her daughter on this Vemma vitamin and it went away, surprising even her doctors.

Re: cataracts...how can I get rid of them without surgery???
I do not know of any reliable method of non-surgical removal that does not carry far higher risk of blindness than the surgery itself now does.

Today with the computerized laser surgical units, precise measurements made of each eye, and the new implantable lenses, cataract surgery is routine and the complication rates are less than 3% for all complications and less than 1/4 of one percent for serious complications (ie: requiring hospitalization and or resulting in loss of vision or worse.)

A few years ago it was common to do one surgery, wait until it healed and then do the other. Today the techniques have improved to the point where it is considered quite safe to do both eyes at the same surgical session if you need both done.

Find a doc who specializes in this field of ophthalmology and who is board certified in his area of speciality. These are MD's with training in the eye and vision, etc. Some states do allow optometrists (eye/vision trained specialists but without the training an Medical Doctor has - so they're basically a very highly skilled optician but because they have a PhD level education, they are allowed to use the title "Doctor") to use/buy the machines for surgical treatment of cataracts. While there are many fine and dedicated optometrists, personally I would insist on a fully trained MD and find one who does dozens of these cases per week or month. Talk to previous patients, ask questions about complications? How many per year? Per month? Serious or not? If you are near a medical school that trains ophthalmologists then check out their professors and their private practices. Find the best most experienced doc you can find. You only have one set of eyes. Do not trust them to the cheapest, or the one that advertises the most. Get referrals from friends, the state medical licensing board (and while you're there check out your potential doc for pending or past lawsuits and their outcomes.) On lawsuit in 10 years of practice is not unreasonable. Three or four in a four or five year period is a good sign of drugs, booze, or emotional upheaval that have impaired the doctors' judgement in a serious way and have left him unable to do surgery properly and safely. People don't sue except as a last resort. Any claim of malpractice usually has some validity to it. If you should see that info on a docs state board credentials/ratings, then stay the hell away from such a doc. He may seem great in person, but in the OR is where the skills are NECESSARY for a good outcome. Do NOT take CHANCES WITH A 2nd Rate Doc. Not EVER!

Part two: Medical Economics of Laser Surgical Equipment:

For a doctor to own his own surgical lasers for Cataract and vision restoration is a very costly proposition. These things lease for five grand per month or more. So the doc has to do at least 5 patients at $1000 month net income just to pay for the machine. Also, ask the age of his last equipment. The technology moves forward fast. If his laser is more than four or five years old - then he's bought it used, or it's just behind the current tech. While a high-end brand new laser cannot give the doc skills he does not already possess, it can keep him from setting the machine to do things that are absurdly out of normal ranges, or at energy levels that are not used on human flesh. So look for fairly new equipment being used.

Some companies rent or lease this equipment to the docs short term. They take 25 to 35 percent of the total fee earned and they provide the laser and a tech to assist and keep the machine operating in tip top shape. Obviously if a doc is doing 4 patients a day at $2000/each, the rental company makes say $2400 (for the day) and the doc keeps most of the remaining $4600 for the day. If your doc only does laser surgery 1 day every week or two or one day per month, then he's probably using rental equipment. Ask questions. Find out how good the equipment is and what year it was made, etc. Do not be shy about asking. While patients seldom ask these questions - if your doc seems hesitant or resentful about answering your inquiries, then get another doc. Any decent MD will understand that you're just protecting your eyes and double checking that he is using the best equipment and the most up-to-date techniques. The only docs who will resent answering you are generally those whose techniques or equipment are far behind "state of the art" and that doc will be embarrassed at his truthful answers.

The big colleges and medical schools have the latest equipment usually because the manufacturers of the equipment often sell them to colleges at deep discounts off retail prices or just give them to colleges outright, in order to get student docs accustomed to using their latest and best offerings. When these docs go into practice, of course they're going to want the same kind of equipment they're familiar with. And be willing to sign the big-bucks lease for that equipment they desire.
