Best Buy will not allow the words "Merry Christmas" in its advertising, but are fine with wishing Muslims a "Happy Eid al-Adha."
Quote

Three years ago, Best Buy announced it would no longer use the word 'Christmas' in its seasonal advertising because, they claimed, it was disrespectful to other holidays to use a specific holiday in its advertising: "We are going to continue to use the term holiday because there are several holidays throughout that time period, and we certainly need to be respectful of all of them."

Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

~“In the Communist world, we see failure, technological backwardness, declining standards of health, even want of the most basic kind -- too little food. Even today, the Soviet Union still cannot feed itself. . . . East and West do not distrust each other because we are armed; we are armed because we distrust each other. And our differences are not about weapons but about liberty. . . . The most fundamental distinction of all between East and West is that the totalitarian world produces backwardness because it does such violence to the spirit, thwarting the human impulse to create, to enjoy, to worship. The totalitarian world finds even symbols of love and of worship an affront.” Ronald Reagan

On a more positive note, I went to the Target.com web site tonight looking for something, and on the home page there, it says "Christmas" several times, you can click on the category "Christmas" if you're looking for Christmas things.

It's about time they changed from generic "Holiday", I'm sure people were writing and expressing how they felt. A few years back in their Sunday color flyer in the paper, they had a big spread of what they were calling "Holiday Trees". Honestly I never felt the same about Target after that, it made me sick. And I'm a native Minnesotan (Target headquarters) with a pretty strong loyalty to Target. I really didn't shop there as much after the "Holiday Trees" ad.

I was very glad to see "Christmas" all over the Target Home Page! Merry Christmas Target!

and fuck you Best Buy! Dammit another Minnesota company!

You act like you are shocked that we live in an anti-christ world. The more they try to silence us, the more it verifies that the Word of God is the real deal. Anti-christ is to arrive shortly. Gear up church and stop putting your hope in a satanic pre-trib rapture. Christ is coming once more and it's after the trib. We have much to endure.

Just sent this letter to best buy:

"First, I understand not wanting to say Merry Christmas being a chain corporate retailer. Although i am not religious, i do not agree with it, mainly because i do not care for politically correct nonsense. However i do not hold it against companies who make that choice. But why is Merry Christmas unacceptable, but Happy Eid al-Adha perfectly fine? If you are going to avoid religious holidays, then avoid all. Including halloween. But no, there is no pc controversy about that yet, so you won't buckle until then. What's next? Not advertising for 4th of July in fear of insulting illegal aliens? Why advertise for New Years? That may offend people who celebrate Chinese New Year, or Rosh Hashanah. Why not just quit using any holiday ads at all if you want to take a stand? Needless to say, you are by far not the only game in town, and i will gladly be taking my business elsewhere.
Merry Christmas."

Mathetes, it really stinks doesn't it, but I think that we could deal with the different beliefs and tolerate the Happy Holiday signs to include all beliefs, but they do seem to allow other belief statements such as happy hanuka or however you spell it and the happy eid al adha at these stores, unbelievable!

Everyone needs to first of all send a letter of discontent about this to Best Buy and tell them we aren't shopping there anymore.

Next, paste the ad copy in email and send it to everyone you know. I am also putting it on my Facebook account. Maybe by CHRISTMAS they will have very few customers buying anything from their stores. (Except for the Muslims of course)

though Wikipedia is error-fraught as well, they do have an article with citations on this issue that confinrs that Best Buy dumped Christmas

[link to www.msnbc.msn.com]

"During the approach to the 2006 holiday season, competitor Walmart, responding to pressure from conservative Christian groups, made a largely publicized decision to center their holiday marketing strategy around the term Christmas. In response, Dawn Bryant, a Best Buy spokeswoman, stated: "We are going to continue to use the term holiday because there are several holidays throughout that time period, and we certainly need to be respectful of all of them."[41] The American Family Association criticized Bryant's statement and launched a campaign against Best Buy's policy.[42] The American Family Association has often been criticized of creating similar controversies nationwide and rebukes claims that it has limited access to other religions and peoples.[citation needed] In reaction to the same policy, the Catholic League placed Best Buy on its 2006 Christmas Watch List.[43] In 2007, Best Buy included the term "Christmas" in some of its marketing materials as well as greetings for Hanukkah and Kwanzaa."
