A friend of mine told me a

Onions are more powerful than the advice you've been getting. Garlic is much better and is a real test to your awesomeness!

Cayenne works wonders too.

So if you really want to nuke a cold or the flu, eat onions, garlic and cayenne.

Eating raw onions is said to be good as they contain natural penicillin.
Cut in half and left about the house during flu will absorb impurities in the area. They must be burned in the morning and replaced with fresh ones daily.
This is why onions must not be stored when cut as they absorb surrounding "smells".
