I don't care if someone likes or dislike Christmas or is religious or non-religious...listen to this and remember to love those around you regardless:

No, Christmas is not Christian. Christians clebrate it, it's true but that still doesn't make it Christian.

As for Christians who don't celebrate it and claim to do good all year long instead, it's been my observation they don't and make themselves into liars and hypocrits instead. Some might do good all year though, so I want to stress thats just my observation.

I think a year or two off from Christmas might do a lot of people good so they can reflect on what it means to them and really stress the meaningful parts of it in the future. Many may decide it means nothing to them afterall.

Heart of the heroes, ride.
Up through an empty house of stars,
Being what heart you are,
Up the inhuman steeps of space
As on a staircase go in grace,
Carrying the firelight on your face
Beyond the loneliest star.

I'm Christian and i don't celebrate it. I'm not going to apologise for the hypocrits you've encountered as it's not my place to do so. But i know what you mean. Oh gosh do i know what you mean... :(

It revolves around the Solstice. A good reason to be festive anyway ;)

Re: Is Christmas Christian or just another materialistic trend?
Humans have a natural penchant for celebration, festival and pageantry. Nothing wrong with that.

Many of the western Christmas tradition have roots in pagan lore like bringing the forest (tree and wreaths) indoors.

Perhaps 30 years ago or so, I was in a small indigenous village in central America. It was up in the mountains, pine forests and at the end of a long, rough road, you had to walk the last bit it was so rutted. There was a church there, catholic of course, but inside the locals had brought whole pine trees into church and stood them up. 20 or 25 whole trees, maybe 18 or 20 feet long with full branches and crowns.

The church was dimly lit just with natural light from a few windows, they had spread pine needles all over the floor and it looked and smelled like a pine forest grove.

It was a catholic church and the locals had long ago acquiesced and given over to that control but they never gave up the forest.

You are getting close. The date of the 25 of December is not the birth of Christ. But a celebration of pagan beliefs that celebrate or worship the god sun..........
