Atheists: what's the point?
If you truly believe that eventually all will be gone, that earth and humanity will inevitably cease to exist sooner or later, and eventually fail to leave behind any trace of their passing in the long run as well, then what's the point?

Why get out of bed in the morning? Why follow any rules, laws, or morals? Why bother learning anything?

To leave no lasting effect is to have no consequence.

To have no consequence is to be of no consequence.

If nothing we are or do is of any consequence, then why bother?

Re: Atheists: what's the point?
One day an atheist decided to take a short cut in the woods going home. It was a very pretty day; birds were singing and flying, the brook was burbling, and wild flowers were everywhere. Just he saw the bushes move. It was a bear. He ran as fast as he could and faster still. Then he tripped and fell on a log. By then the bear was right over him about to strike. The atheist yelled out"Oh my God." Just then the birds froze, suspended in mid-air, the brook stopped burbling, and it got quiet. Then God showed up and said "tell me, why should I save you? You teach people to not believe in Me." Then the atheist yelled out "well, at least make the bear a christian." Then God said "Oh, all right." Then the birds were flying again and the brook was burbling. The bear was about to strike then stopped, stood up on his hinds, bowed his head and said "Lord, I thank Thee for this food I'm about to eat."

Re: Atheists: what's the point?
The whole point is that you don't need God to make a difference.

You can make a difference in someone's life (even mine!) right now without bringing God into it.

Sounds like the only reason you do anything is fear of God. That's no way to live.

Not any lasting change, not without some sort of immortality in the equation. We know our planet and species aren't immortal, or it's either your soul that's immortal, or nothing at all is. And any so-called "changes" I might make in your life are ultimately false and illusory if you cease to exist one day.

If nothing is immortal, then what's the point?

Buddism doesnt have a deity as far as i am aware which makes it atheistic in nature IMO, thats alright in my book because it doesnt place the blame for the human condition on supernatural bullshit, and it doesnt promote fear, not sure id call buddism a religion, its more like a philosophy from what i understand.

Dont you guys just live a life on the principle of treat others as you would like to be treated.

What difference would that make if both the people and the memory of that act are doomed to become lost and gone forever? A year ten billion years from now will arrive, and when it does, what difference will all this be then?

If it doesn't make any difference then, does it ever, really? I guess I'm asking, wherein does value reside?
