Houston braces for about 2 inches of snow | |
D. Bunker 12/04/2009 10:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Some in Houston area may even see half a foot of the white stuff Quoting: Tyler DurdenHouston this morning broke a record with the earliest snowfall ever recorded in the city's history. Forecasters are still hedging their bets on the amount, but say the most likely scenario is 1 to 2 inches of widespread snowfall through the day. Some areas could get up to a half a foot. Light snow already was falling downtown and in other areas before 8:30 a.m. Other forms of precipitation — such as rain, freezing, rain, sleet and hail — also have been reported. Houston's main weather recording station at Bush Intercontinental Airport reported at trace of snow at 8 a.m., meaning Dec. 4 will go down as the new record. One snowflake, or even the forcast of one and they all just flip out! Crazy.... Quoting: MaguyverIt may seem crazy to those of us who live where it snows every winter. But driving techniques are different in snow, and we've all absorbed them subconsciously over the years. It would make me nervous to drive in something you only get every few years or so, like a big ice storm. |

jailarson User ID: 808156 United States 12/04/2009 11:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is not a problem for northern states as they are used to it and the people generally know how to drive in snow. Also many more vehicles with all weather tires and 4X4 capability. This is not the norm in Houston however. Add in the lack of snow removal equipment and I predict gridlock and a massive number of car accidents. |

Reminds me of the King of the Hill episode where Arlen gets a couple flurries and the whole city is shut down. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 644028Indeed, if the snow gets over an inch you can be assured about 25-30 wrecks in the morning. glptrainer(at)yahoo.com |

Ossie bloke mentioned how Aus. was at risk of a freeze for the whole next week, and I mentioned that there was snow in Texas a few days ago. He asked how much, I said "i dunno, 1-2 inches?". Somebody else mentioned that houston only gets snow once every 2-3 years, and it was usually in late jan-early feb, but NEVER in early december. buckle your seatbelts! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 701482 United States 12/04/2009 11:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | it's pretty bitter in central texas and we are supposed to get snow this aft. problem is people here do not adjust driving to conditions..hell even in rain people still speed, tailgate and don't turn on their headlights. the news just had a segment telling people to focus on the road not look at the snow (because it is so rare) and that most accidents are caused by looking at those purdy flakes made me think of turkeys looking up in the rain for some reason.. |

urantian User ID: 832113 United States 12/04/2009 11:24 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We are going directly into stasis fairly soon. We do not believe bringing out Jupiter will be of any help but, nevertheless, we may or may not. It is placed as far out as possible in the corona from time to time and even has been exposed for short periods. It continues to upset the balance on Earth more than we would like. We wish to have that very slow reversal, so going into stasis first will bring that completely under our control. We have continued to keep a quiet sun for this reason. Your scientists think that these few new suns spots are of the next cycle, but they do not understand that the Sun is also going to be completely monopolar and it will not thusly experience cycles. This is a slow transition into that state for the sun. [link to www.luisprada.com] |
