Stephen King's Under The Dome
1072 pages of what to watch out for in a serious lockdown situation, especially in small-town America.

1. Local political authority figures seizing the opportunity to gather the power, wealth and resources for themselves.
2. Local law enforcement subservient to those political authority figures to the extent that they make no decisions for themselves.
3. A mass of people who will “go with the flow of what they know”; i.e. a herd of sheep who do what they’re told without a peep.
4. Some nut jobs who ally themselves with the current authority for expediency, but have their own, most likely pathological, agendas.
5. Some other nut jobs who defy authority to the point of being a danger to everyone else. Like the other nut jobs, these are focused on themselves and their holy mission, regardless of the long term effects or how it affects the group as a whole.
6. Members of “resistance” who are loudmouthed tell-alls who can’t seem to resist the urge to stick it to the authority, when they haven’t a clue just who they are dealing with or how dangerous those with authority can be.
7. There is little or no help coming from the outside.
8. Keep your pantries full and be ready to move on a moment’s notice.
9. Not everyone will live, but you can’t give up until you’re dead.
10. Randall Flagg, The Walkin’ Dude, is not responsible for all the evil in the world.

Some notes:
- yes, I know it's fiction
- yes, I realize Stephen King probably isn't a martial law expert
- no, I'm not retarded
- no, I don't spend my whole day watching porn and playing W.O.W

I tried not to provide any spoilers for those who are still reading or will read the book. It’s just that I kept thinking of GLP the whole time I was reading it. chuckle

I had a Hard Cover Copy of 'The Stand' signed by one of King's 'Ghost Writers'. The owner of the book claimed the guy was a person King employed when he got stuck or writers block to help collaborate anonymously. I tried to keep it, like evidence, but she demanded I give it back, so I reluctantly had to forefeit my prize.

and OP's wrong on the last point.

There's a great article in the sidebar right now that illustrates what I obviously can't explain very well.

Re: Stephen King's Under The Dome
I love King's story telling expertise. By far my most read author. One always feels like they know each and every character, very in depth...but then, in every book he will have someone say or act in a way that you kinda take a step back and think, what the fuck is going through this guys mind to even have thought of that?? I don't mean the horror stuff, anything goes there, it's usually the stuff stuck in the casual conversation pieces between characters...I love his books but there are some things I could do without...wtf

yeah haven't read this one yet, but will, for certain..peace

Re: Stephen King's Under The Dome
I loved this book. Right up there with the Stand in my opinion. Been anxiously awaiting the movie.

True story about King. I once had a vivid dream I wrote when I awoke. I sent it to him, as it was right up his alley. I looked up what he was writing at the time. Years later I watched to movie, and was shocked he used my name as if to wink to me. I watched to movie and sure he used one of those ideas.

True story.

The "King" hath no clothes?

Hmm, anyone else see "The Stand" as programming similar to "Atlas Shrugged"?

Whom is the better programmer? Anna Rosenbaum or Stephen King?

What if the unconscious reality, saw to it that Atlas Shrugged would have a sequel?

What if the true history of the results of these two programs is this:

1: Atlas Shrugged happens, rich people wreck the world then flee to their mountain retreats, and THEN

2: The Stand happens, superflu Captain Tripps is released by the same assheads from the first book above?
