We really don't understand the rest of you and why you behave the ways you do socially. We try to adapt, look you in the eye while we talk to you, understand your "beating around the bush way of interacting with other people." You all just look like a bunch of liars to us aspies. There was a problem with the birth..:( There was no problems with births in our family. It appears to be genetic. My mother, one of my sisters, and one of my daughters all have this condition. We don't know why we can't keep friends, why people are put off by what we say when we speak the truth, or don't play your usual social games. We are all very good looking, so people are attracted to us physically, good with fashion and clothes, nice figures, even my old mama. And we have our charming sides. We are loving people. One case in point, has happened to all of us over the years: Friend breaks up with boyfriend. Relationship is over, right? We might start dating this guy. Girlfriend has fit, ends friendship. What!!?? You were done. What's the problem? Just don't get it. Just one example. No good deed goes unpunished. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 824929they now cannot be 'picked on' because "oh i have a disease and a label, so you cannot bring me down or ill file a lawsuit against you, plus i dont have to take certain classes, and money will now be wasted on research and medicine i do not need while those go on dying with cancer and real disease" And the truth comes out. The whiny crybaby is pissed he can't torture and abuse the retarded / awkward /nerdy kids anymore. What a piece of shit you are! Aspergers is a real syndrome. Reading about it and watching YouTubes does you no good if you've never actually had to live on a day-to-day basis with someone whose "obsessions" are so extreme that they make life difficult and painful for themselves AND their caregivers. It's not a simple case of "awkward" or "difficult" people. It's a struggle in many cases just for survival, because loneliness and isolation really hurts. And no matter how hard they try, they cannot fit into society and into life. It has nothing to do with "mommy and daddy didn't raise you right," because in many cases, aspies have very good homes and upbringings. Loneliness is one of the worst of the human conditions, and aspies suffer it through no fault of their own. You sound like one of those asshole fuckwads that tell people who are addicted to heroin, "just stop doing it, have a little will power!" If it were so easy, you wouldn't need to tell aspies "just make a friend." It would already be done, already be solved. But it ain't that easy, you imbecile. Someone tell me what disorder I have: I sometimes have a fear of checking replies to e-mails, and I definitely a fear of answering the phone. It only helps if I'm not expecting the call (like to come in for a job interview) and then I'm alright. If I mess up in a social situation, it eats me inside for quite some time. I can make friends, but can rarely keep them. I've had one girlfriend my entire life. I'm 22. I am attracted to weird people. The idea of a big party is surreal to me. I don't have my driver's license, because of the fear of proving my driving skills to a stranger. I hardly say two words to people at family gatherings, not because I'm shy...but because I used to be and I don't want them thinking, "Wow. Why does he talk now and not before?" I could go on and on. |

If you've got a kid with these "symptoms" or "behaviors" you need to learn how to be a parent. Back in the day when I was growing up, you parented the kid to learn to behave and grow out of their silly, narcissistic behavior. I suggest parents with children like this today learn to do the same thing. The majority of the "symptoms" are nothing more than developmental stages ALL children go through and some very quickly if their parents are on the ball doing their jobs. ALL children hate change (need routine), feel shy and awkward at points, and refuse to share. Most are sensitive to environmental factors of the modern world, and so are many adults who haven't turned into zombie sheep. I don't think you're an Aspie, there's something else wrong with you. Aspie's don't usually have your kind of social fears, they just don't understand what the proper social behavior is in the first place. They don't usually suffer in the least from this either, but the isolation that follows can get to them in the end. And Aspie's aren't attracted to weird people; Aspie's ARE weird people! I'd just call you a plain old neurotic. Not sure if that's a proper diagnose though. But your problems strike me as the kind psychologists can actually fix with suitable therapy. Not just talking sessions, but practical exercises, designed to slowly normalize the feared thing. Fear of spiders can be trained away in this manner, as an example, and I'm pretty sure fear of social situations can too. |

Every little thing and at any point and time can set off a bad episode in children with aspergers.. Our son has a thing with clothing material will only wear certain things and types of socks etc.. Loud noises like school lunch rooms etc. are not a good thing, as well as certain lighting and smells etc... And from talking with other parents all of them see similar problems... You try and keep the daily routine on schedule, try and keep them distracted enough so they don't dwell on upcoming events like the first day of a new school year... over the years it has been trial and error but with counselling and 12 yrs of persistence things are much better.... |

The disorder is not fake. I'm better at making friends and everything then I ever have, I just can' make close friends as much. I can't relate or understand a lot of things. The bottom line is, I can fake being normal, but you can't fake the difficulty in comprehension that comes with Aspergers.
