i see nothing wrong with it

particularly when you consider it in the context of history

its all about being ladies and gentlmen somethng lost on most people today around the earth
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 577234

House of Lords, ladies and gentleman !!!!!

1rof1

It is unfortunate that people in the Uk still believe that their soldiers are dying in Afghanistan to keep Britain safe when actually the "Lords" gentleman are after the opium trade to keep the people dumb. Such a shame.

Re: Why Do Pretentious, Insufferable Twits From England Go Around Calling Themselves 'Lord'?
I'm English born/half-Irish with Irish Republican sympathies (not Irish Republican violence though! am very peaceful). I've been told all about the British Monarchy/Titles by the Irish, how they stole lands/property & businessess with brutal force centuries ago here in the UK & Ireland.
Basically, the sooner the 'system' is crushed the better. British MP Tony Benn gave up his title to be become a comman man, MP, & explains the UK does not have a democracy while we have to swear allegiance to some outdated middle-aged regime in charge of our daily lives. The UK is a dicatorship, but with bio-robotic puppets who are used to discipline the common people into submission to the Monarchies demands. They're just a fungus of 'respectable' gangsters/satanic masons with no empathy who are steeped in blood, weath and power they don't deserve.

The whole fucking lot of them should piss off, Monarchy, Lords & Titled creeps with land & wealth that belongs to the common people, the Church/Religion, get rid of the lot of them. Britian is responsible for more WARS/Conflicts in the last few centuries than any other, leaving old Empire countries in a 'bloody mess!' We wouldn't have Arab Terrorists if if wasn't for ex-British rule, who carved up land as they were leaving, leaving people to fight amongst themselves. As soon as I walk out my front door I'm on camera everywhere I go! Having dual UK/Irish nationality, after been told the history of the Brits while in Ireland has really opened up my eyes. We Want Our Country Back..!!

It's completely annoying. Must be some weird remnant of the social structure from the Dark Ages. The Lords and the serfs. The more things change, the more they remain the same.

Is it historical or respectful when the title holder bought the title, an old Saxon title or long unused Norman lord of the manor, cost about 60 quid. If it doesn't entitle you to sit in the Lords or at least have a family member who does it's a piece of snobby affectation.

STOCK UP NOW. You should have at least 6 months worth of basics for every member of your household. Stay away from crowds when trouble starts, do not forget water storage, tobacco is worth more than gold or silver, and be kind to hungry children.

House of Lords
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 844086

To this day in Britain entry into the Parliament House of Lords is possible only if you have a title, and thats all you need you dont get elected. I think the system is called peerage, there's also the House of Commons (commoners) which representatives get in by being elected.

Not sure but I think legislation needs to be approved by the House of Lords before it becomes law.

Actually you do need to be elected as an MP these days to enter The House of Lords.
Only holders of Hereditary Peerage can take a seat on on of the benches.
The Benches
Lords Temporal: Those aligned to a Political Party.
Lords Spiritual: Holders of High Ecclesiastic Office
Lords of Appeal in Ordinary: The Law Lords.
You are correct that Legislation needs approval by the Lords.
