"We" as in humans, still can't... only with our 'instruments' of telescopes. We, most of us, can even see Ur-An-Us. Fewer can see Nep-Tu-Ne with the naked unaided eye.

Would be way cool to build these Star Systems like in Celestia. Does anyone know of any "planetarium" software that allows for the building of new "Solar" Star Systems?

Gotta draw an arbitary line somewhere, other wise something 1Km in width would get called a "Planet". Is the Moon of Earth a Planet? Or a Planetoid? Or a Moon. OR an Asteriod?

Guys there are billions of galaxies out there. Of course there are going to be tons of exoplanets. This should not be a surprise.

I believe it is also. The American and really the western world economy is about to go belly up, they need a war to get it cooking again and also to get peoples mind off of the economic implosion. But they would need a world war and that is to dangerous to do and it would go nuclear. A second thing that would work is an announcement of alien life and/or alien intelligent life. If this is done people's minds and attention would be on the aliens and not on who or what did their economy in.

Some of your logic doesn't add up in that scenario. If there was disclosure of an alien race that is currently present on your planet - and is advanced beyond our current understanding - who reveals themselves willingly to any sort of being in our world - much less the leaders of the very things that our entire societal structure is built around - I don't think we have to worry about our feeble ideas of an "economy" anymore.

This would jump us hundreds, if not thousands, of years into a technological future. An economy, at least as we know it, wouldn't be of concern - certainly not our current economic crises, which would vanish in a moment due to the massive change and implications such a contact would do to our cohesive whole as a species.

I think an advanced alien species making contact with the people of Earth would have greater significance than just temporarily distracting the populace of its current ills.

What we need is an array of space telescopes like the hubble.

When you link a number of telescopes together with interferometry you can massively boost its power.

That is why you see telescope fields with many Dishes on the ground.


We need to bring that concept to space with a number of linked Hubble like scopes.

Then we can really start to collect some information about these Exoplanets.

Like what ones have water.

Something is wrong. There has not been an count of exoplanets update for 10 days. This is highly unusual. There must be some big news down the pipe. If no big news, then a massive cover-up operation has begun regarding the data.
