a few years back in Florida on a fourth of July
I had left my dog at home under supervisory care of the neighbours on both sides of my house since he was well used to roaming into either home

With my catamaran I was approximately 4 or 5 miles past the intercoastal inlet out at sea
we had 9 boats tied up together for one big Fourth of July partying

My boat was normally anchored in view of my house
to get to the inlet access to the ocean involved sailing out of the cove into a river then a half mile to the intercoastal then about a mile and a half to the ocean

On Fourth Of July the waters and the shores were full of noisy partying people everywhere. Even way out at sea, we could see other groups of boats tied up together which back then was rare to see.

A buddy and I were on the platform between my two hulls holding on to mainstay masts, leaning forward over the water to piss

I saw something moving in the water about 30 feet out
I said "That's a" intending to say shark but then I recognized and said "That's my dog!!!!!"

Somehow he had gone through all the pandemonium and located me.
I pulled him up onto the deck. Amazingly his head and even the upper chest under his snout was still dry!
I couldnt figure what talent dogs had that he could locate me in all the other smells and sounds
but I couldnt figure out how he could swim thru sea waves and keep his head dry either

We did do a lot of swimming off beaches normally. However normally the first thing he did was jump into a wave to go underwater
