2012 explained! We choose our fate as we fulfill our destiny.

“In the future there will be collective murder, slaughter, plagues and finally a big war with the crisis of total destruction. … A time of world destruction will not come in the future in which many lives are lost if those who are able to save themselves and the world practice selfless virtuous fulfillment and follow the Universal Way of life. … Besides the positive, virtuous efforts to awaken their fellow man to trust in the divine subtle law, which manifests itself in T’ai Chi, there is always the remedy of the extreme offsetting itself by over expansion.” – Lao Tzu, “Hua Hu Ching,” passage 75

The 2012 researcher camp usually breaks messily into two factions. There are the New Agers and the End Timers. I find the former to be overly optimistic while the majority of the latter tend to make at least one leap of logic in their linear thinking.

My research indicates that the Mayan calendar will reboot on or around 12.21.12 and effectively is rebooting right now. The astrological alignment that marks that exact date is already apparent. The Mayans did not predict the end of the world. They predicted a new age of mankind, whose beginning will be marked by the abovementioned date.

Here is where the End Timers take a bit of a leap, though in my opinion it is a forgivable one.

Mayan history tells of previous ages leading up to this one. Like this one, those ages, all four of them, had a beginning and an end. The end of each was a period of terrible destruction and the end of the most recent brought the cataclysmic deluge of Genesis, as is accounted for in literally hundreds of creation myths from cultures all around the world, according to Graham Hancock in “The Fingerprints of the Gods.” Mayan researchers who belong to the End Times faction conclude that since all previous ages ended with incredible destruction and a population crash on a global level, that this age must end with destruction of the same degree. Some modern day Mayan tribes predict a war of the end of the world that will culminate in fighting with primitive weapons after all modern age weapons are rendered useless for whatever reason – the destruction of ammunition factories, the deaths of the folks who know how to operate them, or maybe a solar flare that takes out microcircuits worldwide. The Olmecs, predecessors of the Mayans, predicted that this age would end in earthquakes.

Genesis was taken from Sumerian tablets and thus the Sumerian myth system, according to Sumerian translator Zecharia Sitchin. Sitchin says that Old and New Testament prophecy is based not on precognition of the seers of the time, but on an understanding of previous historical events that reveal that history is cyclical. What happened before will recur, though the specifics will be different. In his book, “End of Days,” Sitchin dissects Biblical prophecy and illustrates that the eras defined by disaster written about in the Bible were times of transition from one Zodiacal house to another. The close of one zodiacal era would bring, for example, starvation, a population crash, war, plagues, and Earth changes. The disasters, we could presume, would bring down the existing socioeconomic system and the religion that supports it. The onset of the new age would require a new paradigm, a new religion. Moses, for example, received the Ten Commandments after the close of the era of the house of the bull. The Ten Commandments were the basis of the religion for what then was the New Age, that of the house of the Goat. According to this reasoning, the New Testament would be the religion of the era of the two fishes. Also according to this reasoning, we are right now in the transition period between Pisces and Aquarius. And accordingly we can expect the transition to be turbulent and to, ultimately give birth to a new religion for the new age, thus the “new age” faction of the 2012 research camp.

Other cultures with ancient heritage have similar predictions of a time of incredible and horrific turbulence at the end of an age. His Divine Grace Prabhupada, foremost figurehead of the Krsna Consciousness Movement, a Hindu belief system, say that the Vedas describe this time as the Era of Kali and that it would be known as a time of hypocrisy and treachery. Hindu history describes previous eras of mankind, all of which had a beginning and an end. He asserts that at the end of the current era, city living will be unbearable, people will try to escape into the forests and hills, lifespan will drop and religion will cease to be practiced.

Meanwhile, Hopi prophecy has proven to be about 90 percent accurate with the remaining 10 having yet to happen. Hopi Elders tell of previous eras of man, all of which ended with destruction. The elders prophesize that among other things, salvation will come from the West in the form of an invasion by a force that will liberate them. Conventional archeology and history suggests that Native American ancestry originated in Asia/Eurasia and crossed a land/ice bridge from Siberia to Alaska. Therefore it can be concluded that Asians are blood relatives of American Indians, the latter of whom have been relegated to life sentences in concentration camps euphemistically called “reservations.” The liberators from the West could be the Chinese, here to free their incarcerated cousins. This jibes with the concept of a war of the end of the world. Hopi Elders warn that when the destruction begins, that people will begin moving about like ants on a hill that’s been kicked. They warn to stay put. They also say that during the End Times, human hunting will get out of control. It will move beyond simply being a rash of vigilante justice to the heights of slaughter and destructiveness.

This brings us to the quote that begins this essay. The Hua Hu Ching debatably dates back as far as 500 B.C.E. Its author, Lao Tzu, describes this era as a time of confusion, which it undoubtedly is. The passage at the beginning of this essay predicts a war of the end of the world that will bring about a crisis of total destruction. Yet, like the Hopi, Lao Tzu tells of a means to avert total destruction and to usher in the next era of mankind with relatively minimal destruction. According to Tzu, “A time of world destruction will not come in the future in which many lives are lost if those who are able to save themselves and the world practice selfless virtuous fulfillment and follow the Universal Way of life.” This means that the choices we make and the way we are determine the shape of our destinies, that destiny isn’t something quite so rigid. The details have yet to be written, while the big picture most definitely is.

Sitchin asserts the same. He writes that the Sumerians differentiated between destiny and fate. Destiny was written in the stars, the zodiac. Fate we write. The specifics of destiny are the feedback of our choices. That feedback the Sumerians called fate.

Hopi Elders encourage humanity to make choices that will arrange for a smooth transition into the new age, which is our destiny. If we live righteously, Hopi Elders say, we may lessen the magnitude of destruction necessary to eliminate the hubris of the old world.

Ergo, while 2012 is written in the stars, we indeed are choosing what our 2012 experience will be. Will it be a war of the end of the world, earthquakes, socioeconomic collapse driving the multitudes to seek to escape from centers of so-called “civilization,” plagues, fire? Or will it be righteousness taking over wickedness on the personal level and at a rate so expansive and widespread that God’s wrath manifests as mankind enacting justice and choosing harmony and peace for the first time since, well, the Deluge? ...
