What is the connection?

To me this goal of obtaining an eternal physical body quickened by the spirit does only one thing.
It limits you.
Whether you are filled with the spirit within this body it would still do only one thing, trap you.
Despite being quickened by the spirit you still have flesh and bone, flesh and bone limits what you can do.
Flesh a bone cannot fly or walk through walls.
So, if we are to do anything remotely close to advancing,evolving or going beyond life as we know it now, into another, as many believe, we must do so without the limitations opposed upon the physical mass of flesh and bone by the laws of the physical universe.

Unless you are of the opinion that being pure spirit within flesh will give you the power to transcend the obvious limitations.

Were do these new bodies spring from for those counted as the faithful amongst us?
Is a skeleton suddenly gifted with the whole body again and dig it's way through 6 feet of dirt with it's hands to be reborn or does the dirt pose no limitation?

And those disintegrated by fire, high altitude crashes or bombs.
Are they magically put together again by some form of star trekkie transporter which seeks out and finds these lost atoms and brings them together again?

To me the call of eternal body for an eternal soul does one thing, it limits you.
Advancement has nothing to do with physical bodies ,besdies perhaps that it is a necessary stage towards true advancement but then must be left behind and if anyone tells you that it has all to do with being within a physical body for eternity , it should start the alarm bells ringing, imo.

So I somewhat buy into the idea that we are spiritual beings but whether we are trapped here by Satan or our own bodies, or ourselves.... shrug.

I don't believe that resurrection into a physical body would be the salvation many look for , purely because of the limitations imposed upon you by the physical.

Imagine you have a out of body experience and you feel quite great and the whole OBE seems pretty awesome and some voice, out of no where say's, "You must go back!" Wouldn't you tell em to piss off?

The physical resurrection is a Biblical fact. It doesn't say anything about imperfect bodies. It states that our bodies shall be perfected.

The body allows us to experience and feel. Why would you give this up?

Satan was denied a body and that is why he condemns it. Yet, he and his followers would have gladly taken over the bodies of others where permitted.

Satan does not have a resurrected body. Jesus Christ does. This is why Jesus is a higher level intelligence and one reason why He is God.

There are instances in scripture that imply differently. For instance Jesus, in physical body walking on water. And Peter as well.

One of the disciples (sorry details escaping me right now) possibly experienced a teleportation. (I'll see if I can find).

Jesus also after resurrection did apparantly walk through the door into the upper room. He was still in his physical body.

We don't know what these bodies were designed to do before the fall corrupted them. I'm sure you're familiar with the statistics on the unused percentage of our brains.

Having said all that, no, we'll never be God.

Most Christians today view this verse as describing an escape from the troubles of this world. They believe that one day soon, (it is always soon, it was "soon" when Jesus spoke it to the Thessalonians and it is still soon today) Jesus is going to physically appear in the sky, and immediately all the dead are going to be resurrected and rise to meet Him, and the living Christians will be caught up in the clouds with them to be with Christ. They believe that Christians will physically be "raptured" off of this planet. I'm sure you've seen the pictures of the unmanned cars crashing and bodies coming out of the graves with everyone going up into the sky.

Are you aware that this "rapture of the church" idea is not a historical teaching of the church but something that was started around 1830 by the Plymouth Brethren? It was popularized in America by the Scofield Reference Bible and by elaborate End Time event charts published by Clarence Larkin. During the twentieth century, the "physical rapture" of the Church became a dominant eschatological view.

Not that I buy into all the Christian interpretations of the bible, but I can't believe the way some of you think these days.

The idea of a "physical rapture" is nowhere to be found in the Bible, neither is it taught there. There is no Scriptural support for it. This escapist philosophy is pure fiction. We are not taught to escape reality in the Scripture, but rather to face it knowing that God will work all things out for our good (Romans 8:28-30).

I've always had a hard time accepting the pre-trib rapture theory, based on this one verse, when so many other verses clearly state that believers will see tribulation, persecution and martyrdom.

So much to say. lets go with this statement for a start.

My point to posting the article is that there is no physical rapture before, during, or after tribulation. Just like there is no physical ascension for the "new-agers".

I agree with dig. One wants to move beyond the physical body.

I believe it will be something in between, not physical in the sense that we know it now, with so many limitations, but not wholly a spirit either.
