Build your own underground cabin. Keep it secret. Never pay rent again.
Free pdf on how to build your own underground home: [link to www.4shared.com]

Living underground: Finding peaceful comfort in an earth sheltered home. This housing construction style may be the future. Sheltering a home with earth provides moderated temperatures that will eliminate or significantly reduce cooling costs and require only a small amount of heating. Underground homes offer improved safety from potential fire or high wind damage. Building underground reduces the cost of construction and maintenance of your house.

Energy efficient underground homes is the best for going back to pre-industrial country living for the post-industrial future. You can build your survival home from sandbags, concrete, cordwood (log ends), straw bales, and more. The choice of materials is open to your imagination and ability to find or acquire the resources you will need. Often there is salvage opportunities to reduce costs like used cabinets, doors, wood, tile, windows or other items available.

Underground homes can be warm in winter, cool in summer, and if constructed well they have plenty of natural light, and are safe from hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, quiet, fire, radiation fallout, gunfire; and are comfortable and attractive.

Your home can be partially underground and serve as an emergency shelter with a wood or coal heating and cooking stove, and add solar power or wind power with battery power storage to have all the things we have come to enjoy. Combining a home like this, with a good green house, a pond, and personal water-well.

Making your underground homestead a farmstead is as easy as choosing types of livestock and products: chickens, pigs, sheep, cattle, rabbits, fish, bees, worms, horses, or goats; and adding a garden area for fresh vegetables, some fruit trees, and nut trees.

We can be free from the enslavement of costly utility company services like electric, propane , natural gas, fuel oil, and water bills. Producing our own healthy, organic foods is not just a romantic dream, it can be done. With planning and commitment a happy and independent life is waiting for those who choose to embrace it.

Now is a good time to start getting familiar with wilderness skills, and begin building a survival kit. . With dwindling world oil reserves and other nations angry at United States consumption our government is not going to be available to help us when our entire system begins unraveling. We will be on our own and a prepared pack for yourself and each person you are responsible for.

Adding freeze dried/dehydrated food storage to get through the tough first few years may be the best option for individuals, families, and communal community groups who choose to make their second home an underground survival retreat. We only have what we can keep so self-defense preparations are wise. After high oil prices cause the collapse of our economic system we can still live great lives.

Your underground cabin, underground home, underground house, earth shelter, rammed earth, earth sheltered retreat is as much an investment for your financial future as it is an investment in personal and family security and safety. Nobody says your second home, retirement home, or recreational land needs to have the usual above ground stick-built inefficient type of building that sucks resources out of the planet, money out of your pocket, and leaves you with very little in the way of protection from the lawlessness of failing social/economic/political systems as the oil age comes to an end.

It would be a good idea to start building an underground cabin in a forest with a lake close by. The forest will conceal you building the cabin, and the lake will have plenty of fish for food.

Nice :) I might secretly begin construction on my own underground cabin at the start of the summer. There's a beautiful national park close by with plenty of forests and lakes.

build into the side of a hill with south west exposure, best of both worlds, and you can still be pretty well concealed. even underground bunkers will have signs they are there.

u need to be able bodied and maybe have relatives build close by . For stregnth in numbers . A barn is a must have . A real deep well water with hand crank at kitchen sink for ready water souce without electric pump . . A very deep well is so wise in case of long drought conditions . water tale will deminish in long droughts.. i wonder if a series of wind mills powere would be wise ..a possible root cellar also to store food even inside a container in a underwater well source . hum .

OP, I've thought about this too. It's a shame holes are so hard to dig. If your home is found, it won't be easy to relocate.

True, but it doesn't have to be enormous. Just build one so that it is around the same size as a garden shed -- enough space to sleep, manoeuvre, and store supplies, etc. Perhaps once one room has been built, you might be able to expand it by digging more.

I'll bet very few peopel here have done any building work. Its hard work, and it takes quite a bit of time to build anything livable.
Building secretly means not on your land, or without the required approval. Thats going to cause all sorts of grief if found out. And they can probably find you on Google earth these days.
Nothing wrong with earth or berm houses, but all the good ones require a shit load of good quality concrete to make them waterproof. And the old liquid rock is expensive, especially with all the formwork required.

Re: Build your own underground cabin. Keep it secret. Never pay rent again.
I'd favour a trench with a roof. Easier and faster to make and less chance of it falling in on you after a bit of rain.

With enough earth on top, it can provide adequate fallout shelter. Don't forget your ventilation if fallout is the reason for constructon. You need pipes that come out from the ground then turn downwards, to stop the radiation falling down the hole. Don't forget the doorway aswell, which needs to be ultra secure, as the door is always the weakest point in any shelter.

Plenty of guides around on the net.
If you tolerate this your children will be next.
