Man, that's about as intense as I ever heard them, and an interesting website. Good one.

230.....I watched the TV interview. Thanks. Bob did look a bit stoned....but I have seen him before that way as well. Maybe he is just naturally about 40-50% crazy.....while Jerry is in the 5-10% range......even without drugs. Hard to say.

Have a pleasant week.

Re: IT HURTS ME TOO (Grateful Dead 1972)
Thanks OP! Appreciate this thread. It was a nice way to slide through the New Year.

Yes, I was lucky re: my brother. Just to give him a few more kudos, he was also the pioneer of the "concert news" format on FM radio. It started in Pennsylvania... I forget the station. I think was out of Carlisle... a college station. John would spend half his day on the phone, calling the Dead office and a million other places, finding out who was playing where, how to scoop tickets, etc. Then once a week, he started presenting the info to the local DJ, who broadcast it as "concert news".

My brother could talk your ear off... he often got comp tickets, advance info, etc., just so the party on the other end of the line could get off the phone. Very effective! He was also completely selfless in doing the give-away. He made more Deadheads ecstatic by walking up their "I need a miracle" signs, and handing them juicy, free front row seats. We just loved watching him in action.

What a great culture Dead shows were. If only the world could/would study it carefully, and replicate it. We'd be so much better off.

Happy new year to you, too, OP!

This is the OP at a worksite computer. Thanks for your story. It must have been a very exciting time for you traveling around so much with your older brother....and seeing so many great shows. Have a very nice year.

Five days into this thread, and no serious contenders.

I hereby proclaim Jdd to be the GLP'er who's been to more Dead shows in one lifetime than anyone else.

I will proudly hold this spot until properly knocked off the podium.

"Thank you very much." (Said in my best Elvis voice.)

Re: IT HURTS ME TOO (Grateful Dead 1972)
I first met the Hare Krsnas at a Dead show in NYC. I remember sitting in my seat, looking at the book they'd given me (along with an excellent sweetball), just shaking my head... "Far out." I didn't have a clue what it was, but I knew it was valuable.

The Dead crossed paths directly with the devotees on several occasions. The biggest event was the Mantra Rock Dance at the Avalon, Jan 1967.

Here's a story I did about it for our website:

This was a long series... at least 8 parts. You can find the rest of the segments by searching for "Krsna Culture in Music" here: [link to www.harekrsna.com]

Does anyone happen to know if Jerry G. played steel pedal guitar in this song????

Yes, he did. I had that album years ago.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 851001

In 1972 they played Folsom Field in Boulder, CO. Fans rushed the gatekeepers, knocked them aside, ran to the top of the stadium and threw good tickets to those below, so 100s of ticketless deadheads got in for free.

Later in the show Pigpen came out with a trashbag full of weed, neatly rolled in baggies, threw it out to the crowd.

GD weren't allowed on CU property for about 10 years, but were eventually forgiven. Crazy days...

I'll post this one because the other vid sound isn't very good, and it's too good a song to miss.
