The failed terror attempt on a flight to Detroit raised new concerns about the response to the threat. When the President leaves the island paradise of Hawaii, he'll come back to questions about who is to blame for the terrorist near miss on an airliner in Detriot and even more questions about what's being done now to keep the nation safe. The Christmas Day terror attempt is bringing flashbacks to post 9/11 frustration: warning signs existed, but weren't pieced together. Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R) of Michigan said, " We had the dots here. And the problem was that we did -- that the systems aren't in place to connect the dots. This is the part of the transformation we still need to see in the intelligence community." "There was no single piece of intelligence -- a smoking gun, if you will -- that said that Mr. Abdulmutallab was going to carry out this attack against that aircraft," stated Dep. National Security Advisor John Brennan. Along with intelligence gathering, airport security is also under scrutiny. Politicians are calling for changes. Maine Senator Susan Collins (R) said, "It is unacceptable that nine years or eight years after Richard Reid used the exact same explosive that we still don't have a system in place that can detect that kind of explosive." "It's time to take a fresh, nonpartisan look, not to knock down the Department of Homeland Security or the 9/11 reforms, but, frankly, to fix and build them up so we learn from our mistakes and we're more secure in the future," said Sen. Joseph Lieberman from Connecticut. According to Politico, starting at midnight there will be a new normal for international passengers traveling into the US. All passengers will received tightened random screening and 100 percent of passengers from 14 terrorism-prone countries will be patted down and have their carry-on items searched. President Obama is cutting his vacation short and will return to Washington Monday, a day earlier than planned. First on his list will be addressing the series of new questions about national security. |

Resident Obama is coming back early because Rush probably won't return until later in the week. This will give Resident Obama a few days to screw with the country without having his feelings hurt by Rush. Obamao is very thin skinned. Last Edited by AwthrAwthr on 01/03/2010 08:03 PM Got pain?
