Anyone Suffer from Water Damage Mold?

Crap, I don't know how the dancing banana got on there I didn't pick it.

I have black mold in my house as well. Shit will not die. I've bleached it only to have it come back like a week later and im allergic to mold. Made me sick all the time and kids too. I take allegra now and it dosent bother me. I still try to kill shit off every few weeks though.

Get a dehumidifier and a hydrometer.Try to keep your humidity below 60%...the lower the better

I take Advair and Singulair and still suffer from asthma. We live in CO which is a dry climate and I have no idea how that mold got there.

Time to have a bathroom remodel.

Start with having everything ripped out, anything with mold is trash. You will need to see what is under the tub and built in cabinets, you will also need to see what is behind the walls.

When the new bathroom is being installed insist that a vent fan rated for double the size of the bathroom is installed. Mind you code is minimum and everyone does 'by code' which means they do the minimum. You want to have better than minimum.

No hard wood floor in a bathroom. No. Bad idea. Tile ceramic of sealed stone or vinyl, no wood. Wood is porous and absorbs moisture. Further in a bathroom it expands and contracts like crazy thus gaps open around the perimeter allowing moisture to get up under the wood floor where it can do damage to the subfloor.

If the mold is really bad, then you have a leaking tub - either around the drain or the drain pipe itself.

If your house is on a slab the damage will not be that great - structurally speaking. If you have a crawl space/cellar then more damage to the floor will take place over time if there are any leaks. Ideally if you have a crawl space or a cellar all pipes, both sewage and supply should be insulated especially if you live in a high humidity area where condensation from cold pipes leads to water build-up. Further it will reduce heat/cool losses through the pipe.

If you do have mold, get a mold remediation team out there. There are plenty of companies that specialize in mold removal - they will not only remove the moldy stuff, they will spray moldicides and other chemicals on structural materials to help prevent mold in future.

Another leak spot is the toilet. One should seat a toilet with two wax rings, this will provide added protection against leaks. Further, one should unseat and reseat their toilet every five years replacing the wax. If your house is over 5 years old, most likely the wax has been compressed to the point where water dribbles out each time you flush.

Signs of mold should be taken very seriously, and one should always assume that if there is seen mold then there is a lot of unseen mold in places like behind the wall, under floor.

Where the mold is super bad is on the floor in a bathroom that is only a toilet and a sink. We are baffled at how it got there. But yeah, I was thinking it needs to be redone in tile and rip the whole 9 yards out to see where it is coming from.

I have been sooooooo sick this past year and a half that I'm not even a shadow of who I used to be and something is making me sick. It has to be the mold.

Yes I have been through this in 100 + yr old guest house I lived in.

Yes most definately sounds like you have symptoms of mold poisoning. Being that you already have weakened immune system it is even more hazardous to you. I had numerous bronchial infections when I first moved in and just got sicker and sicker. See an environmental health specialist because regular dr's don't know shit about mold and may possibly mistreat you and make matters worse.
This is serious. Get out of environment until remedial work by exerts is done!!! Find dr who specializes in mold and environmental illnesses ASAP.
Avoid sugars, starches, dried fruit and mushrooms. These feed the mold illness.

I grew shiitake mushrooms and other kinds.. mold is everywhere.. on your clothes, skin, the air, etc.. remodel and keep things dry.

Also rent ozone generator for two days to kill/deactivate mold spores. For whatever you can't have ripped out!

You need to get rid of that shit. Bad stuff. I would suggest an antifungal primer paint over the mold then paint over that until you're ready to tear it right out. That stuff can kill you, give you mennengitis. I'd do that tomorrow.

Put on a mask when you do it and don't sand it. You don't want that shit airborne any more than it already is.

10 years ago I spent over a month in the hospital after living in a home overcome by mold under the carpets. We didn't know until the carpets were pulled a few months after moving out, but it was to a point where I almost died.

It started as a nasty cough and then asthma, then pneumonia. I was 21 years old and literally had to be rushed to the hospital 3 different times. After a month in the hospital I had to actually fly out of state to a drier climate.

So a word to you would be get it handled. Any mold can be bad, but mold is also common, so don't be so quick just to blame it on mold, just treat the mold problem and be weary that the asthma issues could certainly be a result of the mold.

Sounds to me like Stachybotrys or "Stachy" for short.

In most cases, where the mold is evident on the walls, it will usually be IN the walls. You need to remove anything such as sheetrock that can hold moisture and create a perfect place for the mold to stick to. Wood can be treated with a product such as "Rejuvinal" which is an anti-microbial after cleaning with bleach. Then you should tread that wood with Kilz.

One common mistake people make is to shut off vents in rooms they dont use or dont even use the A/C on levels they dont use. All rooms should have adequate air flow and the A/C will help keep moisture out of the air.


"Stachy" is some bad shit. I believe the former soviet union even used it as a weapon. It can even grow on your eye balls.... ewwww

Mold like that can KILL you!

You need to find the source of the water that's causing the mold to grow, and STOP it.

Yes stachybotrys is serious shit as are many other types of mold. Until I find my list of vitamins and minerals you will need to take and ripping everything out. Dry saunas and sunlight. Avoid sugars, starches,dried fruits. Look up foods that have drying properties. Do not take spirulina or any other super green foods as they produce moisture. So no aloe Vera gel juice either.

It was estimated that there may have been over 70 different types of mold where I had lived. There are literally so many types of mold it's almost mind

Basically what I had was toxic enchephology / encephalitis along with probably a bit of Raynauds as well as repeated bronchial infections. During recovery my thyroid function went to and had menses sometimes 3x in a month. Severe depression can also be experienced during recovery. Mine lasted about 6 mos. yet recovery for me was a 2 year process.

Yes mold can be used as a biological agent. The ancient Chinese used it to poison people.

It is bad, really bad. You can clean call in a company, move, you will always have a susceptibility to mold. It is in your lungs.

humidifier. Take fewer showers. bleach every day. Let that sucker dry out.

Open your windows when its dry outside. Close them when its not. Check your roof and pipes for leaks.

This is going to sound gross, but OP the walls of your house are likely FULL of black mold. You must clean it all out and replace things.

sorry I mean dehumidifier. A humidifier will just make the prblem worse.

Rip it all out. The walls, flooring, everything! Better to move out while the demo work is being done. Unless you cannot afford to hire a contractor, do not do this yourself. If you must do it your self, build a plastic barrier to keep the spores from getting everywhere, cover yourself well, and wear a ventilator mask meant for mold protection.
